Hi from over the ditch,
It really does seem quite major when you're first diagnosed, but as you'll see as you learn more about it and talk to others that it's not the "killer" it seems to be. I felt just like you did when I was diagnosed, it's been 8 years and it still gets the better of me sometimes. I'm now a mama, having thought that would only happen through adoption but it took 6yrs to get here, it may not be like that for you, or you may not even be thinking about kids at the moment, but with the way medicine is going things are going to get easier. If you're not wanting kids yet, I suggest talking to your Dr about a BCP (contraceptive) that is designed for PCOS, I was on one and lost weight, body hair and my pimples cleared up. The best thing you can do for yourself is research and keep chatting to people, the cysters here are all supportive and there's always someone on line looking out for you. Hope you feel better soon, share all this with your man too so he can support you.
