I haven't worked in a long time due to anxiety and depression...(I did get through university). But I have no choice but to get a job now. How do you do it? Some days I can barely function. Are there particular jobs that are easier on the emotions? Non of the working at home jobs seem legit. Any advice on what on earth I can do to make this possible?

When I was younger, 20 or so, I suffered from severe depression. My psychiatrist wanted me out of college and living at home and volunteering at charities; of course, my parents wanted me in college, living at home (so they could watch me - I was a very high risk depressive), and maybe a part time job. I also had lots of panic attacks. I did take medicine for the panic attacks, but some days I still completely spazzed. Being at home, and talking to my parents helped out a lot when I just couldn't function. I also tried temping because the jobs were relatively easy, I wasn't required to really get into the company culture or anything, and the pay was okay. I did have a really bad panic attack at one job and had to leave before the end of the day, but luckily as I was only temping, I didn't ever have to go back. I tried to keep pretty busy outside of working, obviously being in school helped, but my friends and parents were always getting me to go out and do stuff. I found that having a schedule of when I was to do things helped me not get too stuck in a quagmire. HTH If I think about it some more, I might be able to sound a little more intelligent....sorry if this post is a little quirky! But I do understand where you're coming from!

I know that you live in saskatoon! I used to live there 3 years ago, then Prince Alberrt and now..........yellowknife:o
May I suggest the west side wal-mart! I happen to know alot of the managment there and they are great. Wal-mart also has a 24 hr phone line callled resourses for living which you can call at any time to real psychologists for free! I have no idea if they are hirering now or not though. Or maybe someplace that is small and a little less busy, that isn't open too late to make sure you are getting enough sleep!
I know how you are feeling, cause right now I just don't think I could work and be a reliable employee as some days it's just hard to get out of bed.
Best of luck!
if ya need more help or have questions ya can always talk to me

Hi...thanks for posting. I'm not doing well, but I have e-mailed Wanuskewin (remember that?) to see if they have anything part time, and am actually considering tele-polls (harassing people on the phone). I'm still all in a mess trying to figure things out. oog.
I think WalMart would probably kill me. lol

I actually have more problems with depression when I don't work. I guess I'm somewhat of a workaholic because I get gloomy if I don't work a lot. I noticed a dramatic change when I was 16 and got my first summer job. I was depressed as hell and then started working and it got better and I've been like that since. In fact sometimes work is the only thing that keeps me feeling halfway normal.

Yes, I sometimes think in my rational moments that it would be a heck of a lot better for my self esteem to be doing something, and not sitting around reading trying to distract myself from the way I feel. But actually being able to do it....I guess I'll just have to try. I just sometimes can't seem to physically do the simplest things, and I worry 'what if that happens'? I know the world won't end. But I feel so stupidly fragile sometimes.
