Default How do you know if you have cyst on you Ovaries?

Other then having the ultrasound? Can you have periods? The reason why I'm asking this because I'm on the other end of the PCOS spectrum. I have periods like clock and I use to have severe pain but the met has helped that. So I was just wondering if you still can have AF with cyst on your ovaries?

Yes, you can still get your periods and have cysts. I think the only way to know for sure if you have any is with an ulrasound. Many women have cysts but show no symptoms at all.

Yes you can still have cyst on or in your ovaries and still have a period. Before I was first dx I would have severe pain too before my period would start.Sometimes so bad I would pass out. Then when I was dx.I was still having periods although sporadically. For me I started having sporadic periods when I was 16yrs old. They did not officially stop all together until I was 22yrs old. The only way you can find out if you have cysts is an ultrasound. Which I would highly recommend. It isn't painful and is something that only takes about 15-20min.It is really neat too to get to see your ovaries and then to see what the cyst actually look like if you do have them.GL!!!

I don't think that I'm ready to see that - the ovaries or even if I have cyst. LOL!! I'm just have so many questions. Again my periods always been like clock work and I have a thick grade of hair - very thick on my head but all the info that I read talks about the common signs a symptoms of PCOS. What about the few of us thats on the other end of the spectrum?

You might not have cysts, not everyone with PCOS has cysts. Just like not everyone with cysts has PCOS.
PCOS is a syndrome because of the big list of symptoms associated with it but not everyone with PCOS shows the same symptoms.

With pcos, there is no 'other end of the spectrum'...there is only 'the spectrum', and cysters are fairly evenly distributed across it when you look at all of the possible related symptoms.

If you take it symptom by symptom...then you have 'ends'

Its just so confusing to me. The other end of the spectrum that I was referring to is me and other cysters that AF comes like clock work and have insanely thick hair. No Alopecia (sp)

When I was dx'd, I had never missed a cycle, and I had 'insanely thick hair', however, my cycle was not regular by 'hormonal' standards, and I was shedding more hair than I should have due to high androgens. Most doctors ignored my hair loss by saying, "You have a lot of hair, so you're going to lose a lot of hair."

There really is no 'classic' picture of a woman with PCOS...there is a huge variety when it comes to the 'constellation' of symptoms and how they manifest.

I have always had super thick hair too. I am turning 23 soon and I was DXed when I was 14, never had a problem with my hair. Recently, I notice it coming out in chunks and my hair stylist noted that it looks "thinning" on top, but good Lord it's still all there!! I could stand to lose quite a few more chunks before it's noticeable

There are TONS of things associated with PCOS. I have never been told that I had actual cysts after my first ultrasounds. I had the weight gain, facial hair and sporadic periods. My little sister had perfect periods, no facial hair and very little weight gain, but had PCOS still!

My doctor explained it this way when I was 14. PCOS is a pile of "things" that are different about our bodies. If everyone with PCOS grabs a handful of this pile of things, not everyone will come out with the same "things" nor the same amount. Just a matter of what you see and when. It may get worse, things may come and go, but don't expect that just because your Doctor says "PCOS" you will automatically have millions of cysts and lose all your hair on your head and grow it all back as a beard.

It is hard to see the cysts on your ovaries. For me I love the medical field so it was very interesting to see my ovaries and the cysts, heartbreaking, yet interesting.I like to see and know as much about my PCOS as I can.I feel that if I am better imformed and equipped then it can possibly be dealt with better.
I too have very thick hair and tons of it. The hair on my head grows like a weed and is soooooo thick!!! Always growing up my arms have been very hairy and still are.My legs if I don't shave them daily, which I usually don't usually everyother day, they grow like weeds too. Of course I have facial hair growth, not fun,and my tummy has alot of hair too.I have always had thick hair and alot of it.
I do know of a lady who has PCOS and is very thin, and doesn't have any of the "normal" symptoms of PCOS but does have it.Infact she has had 2children with the help of Repro.Endo.but doesn't have the "normal" physical signs of PCOS at all.

Are your periods ovulatory? If they are, you shouldn't have the types of cysts associated with PCOS.

Yes, I ovulate. On my test results, my prolactin level is normal. I read somewhere that if your prolactin level is normal, that you do ovulate.

so if you have slightly higher prolactin levels it means you're not ovulating? sorry i'm just really curious because my prolactin levels were just very slightly higher than normal.
