Default How do you take your met? 500mg 3 times a day or 1500mg at once?

I just started taking met, and am currently at 500mg a day. (one with breakfast) I am supposed to double it to 1000mg. Do you take one 500mg with breakfast, then one with lunch? Or two pills at once?
TIA

I take one every 8 hours so it's a on a more constant level in my body, that's at 7 am, 3 pm and 11 pm. Last year when I took met i took them after breakfast, lunch and dinner, but I feel much better taking them every 8 hours.

I was told to have at least 5 hours between dosage. I dont know how this helps with effectiveness but it certainly helps with the issues at the 'other end' haha.

I started taking them at 9am, 12noon and 6pm which was when I ate, but then I changed jobs (and thus changed routine) and now take them at about 10-11am, 4-5pm and 10-11pm and feel much more 'balanced'

I take 500 mg 3x/day - at breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but I liked the pp's comment about spacing the doses further apart. I might try that - anything to help w/ those lovely side effects!

I take Met ER and take all 1500 mgs. with dinner, or before bed. I think it might be different with the regular Met though, since it isn't time released. You'd probably need to split it up throughout the day, if that's what you're taking.

I take Met ER and I actually take 2500mg a day, but no matter what my dosage I always split it into 2 doses. I am one of those people that can NEVER remember to take meds in the middle of the day so for me I take 2 in the am and 3 in the pm.

If I was you, I would take 1 in the am and 2 in the pm. I don't think it really matters as far as effectiveness, its just easier on your digestive system

Wink Met dosage

I take Metformin ...1500 mg /day. Although the routine I have gotten myself into is 1000mg in the morning with Breakfast... and 500mg at night.

My Dr. originally wanted me to take 2000mg/day but my system just couldn't handle it.
