I just realized that I've been taking my Metformin not exactly as directed. The bottle says take 1 500mg pill twice daily. I have been taking 2 500mg pills once daily. I have very minimal side effects so do you think this is OK? Does anyone else take 2 pills at one time?

My doctor told me to take one 500mg tablet after each meal, 3x day. Really, though, you should be following your doctor's directions, not ours.

If you are asking if taking that way has hurt you, probably not, but again, ask your doctor.

i take 2 500mg at breakfast and 2 more at dinner.
i think the point is to spread them out (if they are not er kind) during the day so that it's working with your body and food all day.
plus, spreading them out helps with any side effects.

Thanks all. I did call my doctor today but I thought I would see what others did since it was over the weekend when I realized this.

She said I should take 1 500mg tablet twice daily, as the label indicates. I wish it were not that way because it's harder to remember but I'll survive I guess.

When I started, I was only taking 2x daily. I took one with breakfast and one with dinner. I find the hardest one to remember is lunch because sometimes I'm not home for lunch.

Look on the bright side... if 1000mg in one shot didn't make you really sick, 2x 500 will probably be okay.

I was supposed to take 500mg thrice a day but I usually skipped the one after lunch. I asked my doc to be on 1000mg and she said its ok if met is working even for two times a day!
So I now take 500mg after breakfast and 500mg after dinner.
