How Do Your SO's Feel About Alternative Remedies??
My DH is very skeptical about using acupressure for TTC - herbs and stuff like that, he's fine with, but he thinks the acupressure and some of the dietary changes (no dairy, no wheat) are, well, for lack of a better word, stupid.
For any of you cysters out there that have supportive SO's with your decision for using alternative remedies (for anything, TTC, better health, reducing symptoms, etc.), what did you say/do/etc. to get his or her support??
TIA!!!

Mine is very neutral on it. On one hand he is skeptical (that's the Atheist in him! LOL!), but on the other hand he's glad to see the changes come from it. He's just not happy when I have to order my pills over and over again! LOL!!!

I really hope I'm not offending you because that's not my intention at all, but are you married?? The reason I ask is because I think that every aspect of my health is part of my DH's business - and the same goes for him. He has high triglicerides, so I research what he can do to lower them. I get put on new medication, and my DH asks me what kind of results the medication will have, what kind of reactions I may have to it. I know some couples aren't like that, but I know a lot that are more open to telling their partners about their health issues and lifestyle changes.

I agree with you that his health is your business, because health care/cooking tends to be the wife's domain, but I can't see how sharing the gritty details of PCOS with a man would do any good. Men don't generally understand health care, especially alternative health care (unless they actually work in the field), and so discussions of various therapies tend to be lost on them. I don't think men "get it", and most probably find it tedious or silly. The women I know who have the best marriages don't treat their husbands like girlfriends; in other words, they save the personal chatter for other women.

My husband is totally for alternative healing. He has been very proactive with me in making sure I take care of myself in whatever way feels the most comfortable for me.
And as a side note - he does get it. I do not treat him like a girlfriend, but I do treat him like a best friend and a partner.

Thanks Aly, for the response!! My DH and I are very similar to what you and your DH sound like. My DH is awesome when it comes to PCOS - he's the one that explains what's going on with my body to his side of the family, he wants to come to my appts to make sure I'm asking all the questions we have and all that, but I think he's just skeptical about how some of the alternative remedies work. Hopefully, with more research on my end, I can convince him that I'm right again......
Mallory - I don't think that Aly was implying that there was only one right way to answer the poll. Everyone has different views about everything. I think this is one thing where being married sheds a different kind of light onto the topic. Not that views from single cysters are wrong or not something I'm interested in. I appreciate hearing views from all cysters.

I know I have a pretty atypical view of things like this. I think your marriage sounds very wonderful and supportive, but for me, I place a huge premium on mystery (don't go to the bathroom with the door open in front of him, always have at least lipgloss on, don't make an issue of illnesses and unflattering symptoms like hair loss, etc etc etc).
Of course, after being married for a while, I guess that's pretty unrealistic, huh? lol

My husband is pretty neutral, too. He wouldn't seek out alternatives on his own, but trusts my research and takes a multi and ginko every day, and understands why I need to take what I do, even if he couldn't tell you what each pill does. He understands as much as I've told him about PCOS, which is about as much as I understand about it. I agree with him being my best friend. His informed support matters a lot to me.

Hi Becky,
My DH is pretty sceptical about alternatives, especially if they are a bit pricey. But I do what I want ANYWAY (LOL).
He is not too involved, or knowledgeable about medical/health types of things. I pretty much make all the medical decisions for our family. Of course, that also might have something to do with the fact that I am a nurse.
He has been very supportive of my decision to use alternatives instead of traditional meds for my MS Tx, even though it co$t a lot of money to get my mercury dental fillings removed, and the oral chelation supplement was a little pricey. He really trusted my judgement, and my decision to do the MS Tx that I felt offered the most hope.
He was very sceptical when I started zapping myself, and the children with an electrical device that helps the body to combat viruses, bacteria, and parasites. But then, when he saw that it was actually helping, he even let me zap him when he got sick. Now, whenever he hears about some one who is sick, he volunteers me to go zap them.
With PCOS Tx: again, I pretty much make all the medical/health decisions. Since alternatives helped us get PG with DS#2, there just wasn't any discussion about what we were planning to do when we started TTC this time, it was a given.

Thanks, Cara!! I'm actually planning on talking to DH tomorrow or Saturday - once I collect my thoughts on all this - and explain everything that I want to try. I also want to do a little more research on everything since he's big on knowing all the facts about stuff.
