Default How does hypothyroid affect fertility?

Hi ladies Is there anyone out there that has some information on this? I read some information but I know that we have it a bit more complicated with PCOS and all.

PCOS alone can be a real pain for fertility! I have it, but my DH is also infertile so we have a double whammy, make that triple if you count my Hypothyroidism too.

We did a few rounds of fertility treatments, clomid and 1 round of Artificial insemination. I had a panic attack that day, right before the procedure...I decided that was enough for me, and we moved on to adoption.

Otilia, Hello. I have hypothyroidism & had my thyroid levels regulated before TTC per my RE's recommendation. It is my understanding that if this is regulated, chances of conceiving are just as good as a normal person. I was able to conceive, at about 6 weeks pregnant i started to feel unreasonably tired & asked my RE to check my tsh level which was 8.9! He raised my synthroid dose & 2 weeks later it was down to 1.5. Unfortunately I ended up having a missed m/c & am wondering if this elevation in my tsh had anything to do with it. I talked to another woman with same issue & she told me that with both her pregnancies, her tsh jumped up right away, her DR increased her dose by 30% as soon as she found out she was pregnant. Anyway, hope this helps.

This pregnancy my doctor has had to triple my levoxyl.

Until week 15 or so, babies get thyroid from mom, and w/out it, they can have a variety of difficulties including growth retardation, low IQ etc. I'm not sure what the stats on m/c are, but if hypothyroidism causes low progesterone, that may be an issue with implantation.

I would recommend getting your progesterone checked at the earliest point you find out you're pregnant, and getting supplementation if necessary.

I had to take progesterone supplements for both of my pregnancies, as my progesterone tested very low (9.x and 10.x respectively). My first pregnancy ended in m/c w/out me knowing what my progesterone level was.
