How effective is Acupuncture with dealing with PCOS?
I have read a few threads on here about the success that women are having with acupuncture and fertility which is good to know. I'm not trying to conceive right now, just want to get the PCOS under control.
Did if increase your energy levels, decrease insulin, etc?

I began acupuncture about three weeks ago. I choose my professional based on rave reviews by my mom's friends and her website mentioned experience with PCOS. I have multiple issues to address besides PCOS, like major sleep problems.
If nothing else, the treatments are incredibly relaxing and I look forward to every one. It's too soon to tell if they are working for my hormone balancing, but for sleep? My quality of sleep has definitely improved!! I'm very happy.

I'm twenty-one, newly single, recently diagnosed, and fighting for a direction in my life. Just started acupuncture for my PCOS, as well as supplements.

That's good to know because I have sleep issues due to PCOS which causes lack of energy. I'm seeing an acupuncturist on 11/17 and I 'm certainly going to bring that up as well.
Are you taking any meds? Prescription/Alternative?
Who me? I'm not lurking. That was a legitimate question. I'm seeing an acupuncturist on 11/17 and generally wanted to know if it helped with pcos symptoms other infertility.
I think Baby Maybe was saying that she was lurking, so she'll see others' answers.
I've been receiving acupuncture for several months. I've had a lot of luck keeping a fairly regular menstrual cycle, which has always been hard for me, coming off the pill, but I don't think I've started ovulating yet.

My main symptoms are weight gain and anovulation/irregular cycles, so those are the only symptoms I can speak about. My acupuncturist runs a full-service kind of shop. She advises me on dietary issues, nutritional supplements, and exercise, and I have lost 20 lbs, but acupuncture definitely didn't do that on its own. I had to put in just as much work with acupuncture as I would've without.
That said, I do enjoy the treatments, and I feel like my acupuncturist is better at listening to me and helping me unravel my symptoms than most doctors have been. My acupuncturist is "Western-style," and specializes in acupuncture for fertility, so she has lots of experience with PCOS.
That's still good to know. I know that I'm going to have to do some work as well, but I need some energy. If acupuncture can help with that, I will be very very satisfied.
I'm just on supplements right now, but my acupuncturist also does Chinese Medicine that she prescribes for me after every visit.

I'm twenty-one, newly single, recently diagnosed, and fighting for a direction in my life. Just started acupuncture for my PCOS, as well as supplements.
These were the daily supplements that I was on before acupuncture:
Vitamin D (16,000 mg for four months, now 8,000 mg)
One-A-Day Energy
Iron
Juice Plus+
Cinnamon
Fish oil
I was very low on energy when I was diagnosed. I had been bleeding for eight months. They helped build me back up. Acupuncture now is helping with my sleep and getting my hormones to optimal levels. It takes time, but so far I'm feeling more energized and motivated. Definitely helps when trying to lose weight! Again, I'll probably have more to say and advice to give after doing it for longer.

Cool. Every little bit of info is helping. Please keep me posted and I'll post my experiences when I see the acupuncturist on 11/17
My acu actually said that acupuncture can't help regulate cycles (usually), but can make you ovulate. My cycles are regulated with met. According to my temps, I have ovulated while seeing him. I think any good acupuncturist will advise on diet, etc. since that is part of Chinese medicine.
i just started with acupuncture thi past week! like others have said- if nothing else i do feel it helps 'center me' and i do feel a bit more focused.
she also started me on a suppliment... i do not have it with me so i can't tell you what it is yet... i do know it's a herbal blend... i will see what it is and get back.
