Question How exactly does Metaformin help with PCOS?

My girlfriend is about to start Gloucophage for her PCOS, what exactly does it do and how will it help her?

Hello DownwardCycle!

PCOS is said to stem from insulin resistance. This is when your insulin (which is a hormone) cannot deliver glucose into your body's cells to make energy.

This somehow creates other hormonal problems which contribute to a long range of symptoms of PCOS.

For me Metformin has worked wonders for my PCOS symptoms. My hormones are more 'normal' and my body is finally functioning like it should be.

I feel like a new woman!

HTH!

That's right....met lowers the insulin and free androgen levels that enable you to begin cycling, lose weight. As you can read from my signature, the drug is a miracle, when used in conjunction with a low to moderate carb diet and regular cardio exercise. It was the best gift I ever got!

Met for me is helping with the insulin resistance, and it is making me ovulate also. I was put on it to help lose weight, and control my insulin. My fertility specialist put me on met because it proved that it would help people with pcos to ovulate. That is what it does for me. Hope this helps
