Thread: How fast to increase dose?

I'm on 750 of the ER. I started it on Tuesday. The doc told me to take one a day for a week or 2 and then go up to 2 a day. I haven't had any side effects, so I was thinking about starting to take 2 today. Wondering if it takes a few days for it to build up - I don't want to regret it tomorrow, but the sooner I'm on the full dose the sooner I'll see results

I am not on the er version of Metformin but I upped the dose every four days. I think it is too soon for you to up your dose. That is just my opinion. I started with 500 mg and then 4 days later up to 1000 mg and I was sooooooooooooooooo sick. It could have been just me, but I would wait. The 500 mg didn't make me sick at all but the 1000 mg killed me. Then I upped to 1500mg and it wasn't too bad at first, I did get sick but nothing like when I upped to 1000mg.

I think my dr suggested about a week before increasing each dose. 500 mg once a day, then 500 mg twice a day, then 1000 mg once and 500 mg once, before finally doing 1000 mg twice a day. The worst I felt was when I first increased to 1000 mg in the evening (and 500 mg in the morning). Now that I'm on the full dosage prescribed (2000 mg total, split between morning and evening), I've noticed for me that I can go a couple weeks w/o any s/e, then all of the sudden I get diarrhea for a day or two, and then I'm fine again.
