Question How to Finance Adoption

DH and I are starting down the road of adoption. Everything looks great for us to adopt from Korea - we have all of the requirements, the wait time is minimal compared to some other countries... Everything is just great. I'm just really, really scared about the money aspect. Any advice from those who are in the process or that have adopted?

We're not rich by any stretch of the imagination so it's a tremendous test of faith. We'll literally have to rely on grants and maybe take out a small loan (I know they exist for adopting, especially low or no interest ones). It's just amazing to think we could be parents by Christmas...yet there is this huge obstacle. Like my husband said though, God doesn't place anything on our hearts that isn't meant to be.

Any thoughts? I'm losing my mind so any input is most appreciated

We have saved everything little penny for the past 2 years. The good part is that it's paid in installments so it's not all paid at once. Do you or your DH's work have any benefits through work for adoption? Some couples have borrowed from their 401K's or taking out a home loan.

Congrats!!! We would have gone through Korea b/c we want a boy as well (we're going through China now for our girl) but don't meet all the criteria (the weight one).

Congrats on your decision and welcome to the Adoption Option!

Check out the sticky above for some advice on funding your adoption. There are loans and fundraisers for starters. We aren't rich either--far, far, far...from it but we have managed with our savings and a bit of help from family. Thankfully we got some back with our taxes too so that's cool.

As for Korea--also look into the wait times because I have a friend who sent her papers last year and is expecting referral in May. Maybe that's because she requested a girl not a boy, though? I thought I had heard the Korea wait time is increasing so be sure to look into that so you are not disappointed with a longer wait.

Best of luck and stick around to ask lots of question! We like questions on this forum!
