Smile How to get diagnosed without insurance

Hi all,
I was recently contacted by someone who suspects she has PCOS, but doesn't know for sure. She doesn't have insurance and wants to know where you can get a diagnosis that doesn't require insurance or is low cost. I appreciate any advice!

From the sounds of this board, I wouldn't WANT to get diagnosed unless I already had insurance....because it might make it harder to get covered by insurance in the future.

She could see if she can be seen at the local health unit, if they do that sort of medical clinic.

I would reconmend I clinic that charges on a sliding scale and if she get insurance do not mention that she is already dx. I do not have insurance but I was sure I had Pcos I went to the clinic and explained this to the doctor she tested me and put me in contact w. other clinics that could service me and all of my pcos needs. Hope thus helps

An insurance company can find out that you've been diagnosed without you telling them. If you take any meds related to PCOS, even those used off label like Met, they have access to that information. There are other medical information databases that insurance companies look at when you apply, so even if you are not taking meds, they may find out you have been diagnosed.
