Is the Ob/Gyn the specialist or are you seeing someone else, too? I kinda answered this in my Avandia for me post... but here again in a nutshell I suggest finding an endocrinologist who treats PCOS. A REGULAR endo, not an RE. I have had better luck with them... Never been TTC but have had better luck at getting my body in order...
Have you checked the find/reccomend a doctor sites for a name? One of them has a sticky at the top about a doctor directory. Someone might have had good luck with someone in your area.

PS - this'll make sense if you read my other post, heh. As soon as my friend is back from England (she was/is visiting her BF) I am going to ask her about that research thing... this just bites that so many know a med might hold hope for them but are told it isn't approved. Who bloody cares??? Suffering from infertility, obesity, and beardedness shouldn't be "approved" either!!!
