Default How has Met affected your scalp hair?

Better? Worse? Mine is worse. I've been on Met for 15 months. Thinning and more thinning, in huge sheds that last 6 months, stop for a few months, and start again. I'm seeing lots of new growth from the first shed, but STILL! The derm says TE bc of overall thinning pattern and my labs are normal, I'm not sure. My hair is so thin. My ponytail is so sad! I was looking at pictures from right before I started Met and I couldn't believe the difference. It's all over thinning, but now it's gotten so bad I can see thru my hair. It also seems to grow more slowly and does not look as healthy as it used to. I'm debating stopping Met, but have had good success with weight loss (50+ pounds with diet and exercise.) Have about another 25 to go and of course I want to keep it off.

I've seen differing opinions on Met and hair loss/hair health so just wanted to get some feedback. An endo ordered labs again for me and gave me Spiro, but only 50mg per day. I'd rather not start another med if my problem can be solved by quitting one. I'm afraid starting Spiro will cause another shed, although that's a possibility with stopping the Met as well.

I'm 29. I'm currently on Demulen 1/35, which I've been on for about 10 years now, 1000mg Met, multi-vit, and B-complex.

Appreciative of any insight!

I am having the same problem. My scalp hair (temple area) is thinning. I have no idea if it's the pcos or the met. I have been on met for approx 6 months. My ob doesn't think it's the met and told me to start using Nioxin shampoo and said if it continues she wants me to start bcp. (Yaz) Please let me know what you find out. I want to feel better...but don't want to be bald as a result!

Met did NOTHING for me. I still take it because my endo insists and even after years and blood tests to prove that it does nothing for me, they all want me on it. It's like a PCOS staple. Sometimes I think there's a Doctor policy manual that says it has to be done no matter what if a patient presents with PCOS. Actually, I can't say it did nothing, I did use to get severe back acne and the HS on my inner thighs. I still get them but not nearly as often or as bad. I can say it didn't help my hair but I can't say it harmed it either because I've been shaving my head for years to accomodate my wigs and hair pieces so it's easy to tell if it's growing in better but pretty hard to tell if it's falling out still, lol.

(Mini-tangent)

Can I just say how much I hate the hair loss symptom of PCOS! LOL! With the long hair growth cycle it's sooooo difficult to determine what's working, when it's working, or if it's a combination of things of workings <- and specifically which ones!! I just wish this were like an infection honestly! "We know exactly what's causing it so here take this antibiotic and you should be completely recovered within two weeks!"

As far as my Met and hairloss. I don't think it slowed my shedding, but I will say my hair looked fuller? Could be a new shampoo, humidity, my imagination!
