Default How important is Spironolactone?

I am taking Spiro, and I am wondering, how crucial is this medication for managing PCOS?

I know you are not supposed to take Spiro while TTC, and since I am getting married in August, I am wondering how soon should I stop taking it if we plan to TTC right away? Will it have an adverse affect on my weight loss efforts to stop taking it?

Does anyone know?

Thanks!!!

I hated spironolactone. I'm ttc as well and my RE has me on a low dose of dexamethasone to reduce testosterone. Ground flaxseeds are also supposed to be very effective.

Good luck!

IT DEPENDS ON YOUR TESTOSTERONE LEVEL AS TO WHETHER IT'S CRUCIAL FOR YOU TO HAVE IT. LIKE TAKE ME, I BROKE OUT IN TERRIBLE ACNE- AND TAKING THE SPIRONOLACTONE HAS COMPLETELY CLEARED ME UP. I DON'T REALLY HAVE FACIAL HAIR BUT I HEAR IT'S SUPPOSED TO HELP WITH THAT TOO. I DIDN'T HAVE ANY SIDE EFFECTS FROM IT...IT'S LIKE A SUGAR PILL TO ME- IT DOESN'T DO ANYTHING TO ME. (IT DOES, BUT IT DOESN'T FEEL ANY DIFFERENT) MY DOC HAS ME ON 100MG A DAY, AND I'M NOT TTC RIGHT NOW BUT WE AREN'T REALLY PROTECTING OURSELVES EITHER SO I ASKED THE DOC WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF I DID GET PREGNANT AND HE SAID NOTHING AS LONG AS I STOPPED THE MEDS RIGHT AWAY. GOOD LUCK TO YOU.

I conceived while taking spiro and was told not to worry about it, I stopped it as soon as I found out I was pregnant (2 weeks after conception). I was very worried after reading the effects it could have on a baby boy (which is what I'm having). But, my gynecologist and endocrinologist assured me that I stopped it soon enough and no ultrasounds have shown any problems. Unfortunately, I can't attest to how important it is to treat pcos because I'd only been taking it a few weeks. Other than losing a few lbs of water weight, it was too early to notice improvement in my symptoms. I am looking forward to starting on it again after my pregnancy. I am willing to try anything at this point (especially to address the hair issue).

Thanks for the info -- I think I'll talk to my doc more about it when I see him. I wish I could say it's cleared up my acne -- GEEZ!
