Default How to keep blood sugar up?

Ever since starting met, I've been having a heck of a time keeping my blood sugar level high enough with the no refined diet my doctor put me on. I've probably doubled the amount of calories I consume in a day, and I still feel awful - so bad that I'm constantly on the verge of fainting.

About every 30 minutes to an hour, I eat a snack, like some almonds, an apple with cheese, etc, and it just isn't enough.

Is low blood sugar a bigger problem for us thin cysters? I am so frustrated... I'm reducing my dose down to 1,000 mg today, which should help me feel better, but it won't get me to my goal of ovulating on my own.

I sure would appreciate any tips you have for keeping your blood sugar level high enough.

I read in "Infertility Cure" that liquid Chlorophyl in your water through out the day can help balance your blood sugar while taking insulin sensitizers.

Could it just be the "Icky" side effects of starting met that you are feeling?? Did you ease into the dosage over a few weeks??

Metformin should not cause low blood sugar, it works to sensitize insulin, to therefore lower the levels of insulin, not sugar.

I finally figured out my problem. I was taking prescription-strength Sudafed every morning with my met (it's about 5x stronger than OTC sudafed). I found out the hard way that Sudafed screws with your blood sugar level, and should not be taken with Met because the combo makes it impossible for your body to control your blood sugar level. I'm lucky I didn't end up in the hospital!

Once I stopped taking the prescription-strength sudafed, my fatigue greatly reduced. Instead of needing 14-18 hrs of sleep a nigh, and feeling like a half-dead zombie when I was awake, I went to needing about 9 hrs of sleep a night, and feeling pretty close to normal. What a huge relief!!
