Angry How to keep mushrooms fresh?

I love mushrooms and often buy the pre-sliced ones to use in salads, etc. My problem is they often get gross b/f I can eat all of them. It seems they're great the first day and then not so hot. How do you store them so they keep well? Wrap them or not? Fridge or not? In the crisper? Tupperware?

Frustrated!

Mushrooms should not be re-wrapped once they are opened. No lid if you put them in Tupperware either. It traps in the moisture & makes them slimy. Also, keeping them in plastic anything can be bad too. If you do use plastic, put a paper towel under them. For portabella mushrooms, use a damp paper towel over the top of them & that will keep them fresh. I'm not sure how well it works on other mushrooms.

I think the easiest way to fix most of your problem is to suggest that you don't buy them pre-sliced. When they are sliced, it gives more surface area for air to work its not so lovely magic on your goodies! Also, don't clean them until you are ready to use them. When you are ready, just wipe them with a damp paper towel. Running them under water makes them tough. (just in case you didn't know ) Fresh mushrooms don't last long around our house so I really don't know how to suggest that you store them. HTH!

We do keep them in the fridge, generally under the crisper drawer (on the shelf) so they stay dark too. At the grocer's they are in chilled coolers, just with no doors.
