Default how long after??

I found out yesterday that I have lost another baby after having an early pregnancy scan. I dont know how far along I was because the nurse said that everything had gone and that everyting inside was back to normal apart from a small clot of blood. The thing is this time has been completly different. The last 2 times I bleed between 7-10 days and this time I had a period, well what I thought was a period turned out to be the start of my miscarriage 18 days ago. Four days after that I started spotting, and for some reason I knew that something was wrong so I done a pregnancy test and it was positive and also had it confirmed with the hospital. The thing that I wanted to know is how long after a miscarriage can a pregnancy test still be positive, because I have done another test today and it is still coming up positive. I am worried because the last 2 times tests were showing negative after a week or so after and this time it has been 18 days.

Thanks in advance for any advice

that depends on how long you were pregnant. The longer you are pregnant the longer the hormones take to go away. I am sorry for your losses.

Thanks for your reply sweetsmom

At a guess I think that I was around 6-8 weeks pregnant.

I went to see my Doctor today, because the bleeding still has not stopped (now 25 days) he has put me on a course of antibiotics because he thinks I have an infection.

I'm so sorry for your losses

It took about 11 days for my bloodwork to turn up negative after I started bleeding. I think it is different in every woman, but if you are having bleeding and signs of infection I would ask the dr to check and make sure everything is gone.

After I started bleeding during my m/c and the ultrasound saw nothing, I somehow felt compelled to keep testing. I guess I was just holding on to whatever glimmer of hope that maybe there was still a baby in there somewhere. It didnt' help that the tests kept coming up positive. After a few days of heavy bleeding and cramping, I finally accepted that there was no baby and that I was, indeed, having a miscarriage

My doctor had me go in for a beta every few days to make sure my hormone levels were coming down. It took 10 days for them to drop completely. I think having the betas helped me accept the m/c, because seeing the numbers drop in black and white. . well there was no arguing that. Although my m/c happend at 6 weeks, it's still very painful for me to think about.

I'm so very sorry for your loss. If you think it would help with acceptance and closure, by all means ask your OB for the blood tests. I know they definitely helped me. {{HUGS}}

Thanks to you all for your kind words and advice.

I have another update. I was taken into hospital on Wednesday 22November because I started bleeding very heavy (it really freaked me out) after having internals ect I was told that there was no sign of infection, but they wanted to keep me in hospital and book me in for a d&c to make sure that nothing was left. The following day they sent me down for a ultrasound, but in the end I ended up having the internal scan because the lady who done the scan said that my womb tilts slightly and it would be better for her to see what was going on if she done it internally. I had never heard of a tilted womb before so, I asked her what that meant and she said to me that its like someone who has a roman nose. She said that everything looked normal in my womb. Whilst scanning me she turned the screen round to show me my PCOS. I had never been shown what they look like before then. They didn't end up giving me a d&c because there was nothing there. The doctor came to see me gave me some tablets to slow the bleeding down and told me to carry on with the antibiotics then discharged me.

I am still bleeding though been 32 days now, but got an appointment at the hospital on Thursday with fertility, so I can ask more questions then. I am a little stuck of what to ask, so any comments would be gratful.

Thanks to you all, for all your advice and comments, it means alot to me knowing that I have you all to listen to me. xx

Just tell them your story and ask them what your options are. The questions will come and if you think of more later, write them down and call later to ask.

I hope your bleeding stops soon. It has been different every time I mc'd. My D&C I bled very little but when it happened on its own it was quite a bit longer. With my stillbirth I am still bleeding 2 1/2 weeks later but it is spotty and off and on.

For sure ask fertility about the bleeding.
