Default How long before I can increase dosage of MET??

My doctor started me on 850 or 750mg of MET and besides a few "gassy" first days I am handling it well. How long has everyone been on MET before the dosage was increased? How long do I need to take it before I know it's working? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Are you on the xr version or just regular? I'm not sure if it matters, but I was on the regular version and I waited a few weeks between upping the dosage each time. I had really bad side effects so it was best for me to wait but it would seem like if your body is handeling it well you could move up when you are ready.

I'll have to check when I get home but I think it's the "regular". My doctor didn't say anything about uping (just a regular doctor) so i'm not sure if she's aware that I SHOULD increase??!

The typical dosage is 1500mg a day (taking 3 500mg pills 3X daily).

My doctor started me out on one pill a day. I did that for a week. The second week I increased the dosage to 2 pills a day. Then the third week I started on taking 3 pills a day.

You should not increase your dosage unless you talk to your doctor about it. The key with MET is not the increase of meds so much as it is the duration and if you notice the effects after time. They say it typically takes 6 months to see if MET is working right for you. It will take time, so just be patient.

Good luck!
