I believe six months is about right. After 6 months is usually isn't as effective, and it causes your uterine lining to be to thin for a pregnancy. I think if you take a cycle or two off, you can go back to using it again for another 6 months. IMO, if it doesn't work within the first 6-8 months you should try femara.
good luck,
candace

My RE told me 6 months ever. I guess if it doesn't work within that time frame it's never going to work. I did continue to take it after the 6 months, but in conjunction with injectables.
My RE also told me that he would not allow me to take over 6 cycles of Clomid as well. He allows for 3 Clomid cycles, followed by a month break, and then the remaining 3 cycles. He said that if it doesn't work by then, it'll likely never work. So after the 6 months, he'll then move his patients on to injectables.
Good luck TTC!!!

I just read that taking Clomid for more than 6 months increases your risk of Ovarian Cancer! So that is another reason it's not good to take Clomid for more than 6 months! After 6 months, if Clomid doesn't work for you, I'd move on to injectibles or another type of fertility treatment!
Sending ~*BABY DUST*~ your way...
