Question HOW LONG DID IT TAKE

hello:

i was just wondering how long it took for Met to work....

and i don't mean the side effects but how long after starting met did you get your period, or ovulate?

The RE told me it would take about 6-8 weeks...but i'm just curious as to how true that really is. thanks...

Default for me...41/2 months

I have been on gluc since mid October.....I had very light AF (like a 2 day spotting ) up untill Janruary. Thn no AF untill yesterday. But I ovulated on CD 21 or so and am having now a very painfull, but normal period.

So all in all .....about 4 1/2 months to ovulate and it was only after I upped to 2000 mg that changes started to occur ...hair loss, finer facial hair and body changes

Good Luck!! Met really sucked for me in the beginning but I am totally willing to deal with the SE for beaing healthy and to have a healthy baby too

I started Met on 9/26/02 and got AF on 10/31/02. Now I get it every month. Hang in there and give it a chance to work. You may have to up the dosage. Best of luck.

Hi there,

I started metformin (850mg once per day) on 2/16. AF arrived, to my shock, one week later on 2/23. I was on CD 40 when AF showed up, and I don't have cycles on my own.

Not sure if I will actually ovulate this cycle, but I'm hoping it's the metformin and not just an incredible coincidence.

Best of luck to everyone!

Hey there!
I started met 8 weeks ago. 4 weeks at 1000mg and 4 at 1500mg. No AF so far...but...my face has gone insane these last 2 weeks acne like I only saw near AF in the past. And my CM is through the roof really clear and stretchy. so I hope that something is happening!!
Anyway I will give it a few more months. I have an appt. to see the RE at the end of May and may ask for clomid then.

Have faith and give it a chance to work!

take care
Henrietta

I started having some spotting off and on after about a month and a half on met, and AF came full force after 3 months on it. And it did make me ovulate.

I finally got a regular 28 day cycle after about 5 months on 1500mg of Glucophage. They have been regular since, although there are some very heavy days and cramping. I am getting my progesterone levels checked -- but my RE believes I am probably ovulating.

Cool I had great results

I was diag. Jan. 2003 with PCOS, I began taking Met. in Feb.2003, was on it for about 6 or 7 weeks. I found out I was PG in March. I had already lost weight on a low fat diet, but when I started MET, I lost about 6 to 8 lbs a week. My total at time of PG, I had lost down 70 lbs. My dr. says it had to do with the MEt and the weight loss!!!!!!

I am now 5 1/2 weeks and everything is going well.

Good luck to you , hope it gives you hope!!!!!!!!!!

Default It works!!!

Hey!!
I replied to this post on the 4th of Mar. saying I had been on met for 8 weeks and that nothing had happened yet but that I was starting to get lots of CM and acne.

Well...I got an AF on the 17th of Mar!!! A normal one that was moderately heavy with cramps and all..(not like provera which I didn't even notice). So Yay!!! It seems to have worked for me in 10 weeks with what looks to have been an ovulation! I am on CD 8 right now and hoping for the best this month!

My question is this: Did most ladies find that their cycles became pretty standard or should I be prepared for a long cycle? I have started charting again would love some input!

Thanks
Henrietta
