Default How long did it take you to get regular AF after starting Met if you never did before

Hi,

I'll be seeing my RE on Dec. 7 to talk to him about Met. I would like to give it a shot before starting the whole injections/IUI process again. I tried Met in the past but I wasn't monitored and I don't think I gave it a fair shot.

I NEVER ovulate or get AF on my own. I was tested once for IR and was elevated, but not to the level of IR.

So... my curios side wants to know if you were the type to never get AF how long did it take you once you started Met? What dosage? Are you IR?

THANKS! The more info I can take to my appt. the better.

I started Met 1000 mg a day at the end of December. It was prescribed for my Diabetes. I also started Prometrium at around the same time. The whole month of January I had af. I had nothing in Feb. In March I had af & every month after including this month.

Before Met from the age of 16 to 21 I never got a period. After that I would get my period once to three times a year, so Met gave me regular periods for the first time in 13 years.

Thanks for the replies! Keep 'em coming!

Disco- I assume you are ovulating since you have regular af? That is my goal. I don't want to have to do all those shots again... but I will if I need to. Thanks!

Oddly enough, my second week of Met I spotted the whole week. Haven't had a period in about three months, so I'm thinking that it's helping?!?

Hello, fellow annovulator I get very erratic periods... have for my entire life. I started Met in July but finally worked up to 1500mg/day in August. In very early July I had a Provera-induced period for the sake of bloodowork. Then after I got up to 1500mg of Met, I got my period naturally in late Sept.... then had a 37-day cycle so I got it again in early November. so we shall see what happens in early december if I'm FIANLLY regulated. Oh, but by looking at my BBT chart, I don't think I am ovulatory yet. But from what a lot of women on this board say, their cycles stabalized before they O'd

Hi, fellow non-AF, non-IR and non-ovulater here too. My DD was an IVF baby. If I knew then what I know now, I'm sure things would have been very different. My OB-GYN put me on Metformin 750mg this past summer and I immediately got AF on my own. Our ttc#1 journey took 3yrs. So we decided to TTC#2 in July. I was put on Clomid and had 2 failed cycles. Meanwhile, I researched on-line about Metformin and asked my OB about increasing my dosage to 1500mg. No dice. She didn't feel it would be beneficial. After talking to fellow cysters and their successes with increasing Met, on Oct. 1st I increased my dosage. Took 2 pills instead of one. I figured why not? Here are women who have exatcly what I have and it worked for them. On Nov. 4th I got a bfp! My RE appt was set for Nov. 7th. Cancelling that appt. was the best call I ever made. I would have gone through Injectables/IVF if needed too but it's so nice that I didn't have too.

Best wishes for you! Keep up your research. Print the Met articles and give a copy to your RE. Sometimes, it's us that already have the answer.

Thanks for the replies!

Sonya: Congrats on your bfp!!! I do plan on asking about 1500mg. I took it once in the past and never was at that high of a dose. Maybe that's why it didn't help anything. Thank you for sharing your story!

Shelly,

At 9 weeks on 1000mg XR, I called my Dr. and complained and said the drug wasn't doing anything. I was so upset and frustrated, I ended up crying the whole evening. But my crying fit was a good thing because it turned out that it was PMS. I got AF the next day! This is the first time that I had a normal cycle since coming off the BCP. Anyway, I have my first follow up visit on the 29th, so we'll see how my levels are.
