Hi. I was just wondering how long most of you have tried to conceive before deciding to adopt?

Hi Taryn! I replied to your poll but I want to add that the amount of time that each couple needs to decide whether to continue ttc or adopt is very personal. I know that my DH and I came to our decision after discussing our possible treatment options and deciding what we were willing to proceed with. I hope that you have peace with your decision whatever it may be.
Pam

Just wanted to chime in: adoption was dh and my first choice as well, but it didn't work out, crazy how god keeps his hands in stuff! now we have our own baby! after 7 years of infertility, I love god, but he has his own timing!

I voted 3-5 years, we never tried preventing pregnancy but only seriously ttc for about 2 of those years. My DH has 6 adopted brothers and sisters and his father is adopted so adoption was never something we were against. We just wanted to try all that we could before going that route. We might have continued ttc a little longer if it weren't so darned expensive and unpredictable though. Good luck and like everyone else has said it is very personal so just go with what feels right to you.
We have decided that after one year of ttc (with meds) we will not go further on that path. I do not like what the meds do to my body and don't want to be a crazy lady for too long!! I would love to adopt and if that is what God has planned for us then I will embrace that with open arms. Wish me luck on clomid...only on my second round!!!

Amanda (27) mom to Cooper (born April 2006) Dx: May 2005 after many months of trying and not getting any results. 1st round of clomid:50mg no ovulation, second round: 100mg BFP....my sweet baby boy
I also voted for 3-5 years but it was not because we wanted to wait that long. We decided a year after we started ttc that we wanted to adopt, but just haven't been able to pursue it until now because of finances.
Good luck!
