Hi Adrienne! DH and I have just finished our homestudy and are approved and waiting to be chosen for a domestic infant. We have begun the nursery, we began it little by little tarting in about March or April (shortly before our home visit). Last week we picked up the crib and set that up. We still need to get the rest of the furniture, so the nursery is far from finished, but it has been something to occupy our time. HTH.
Pam

We have the walls painted/stenciled and are starting to hang things. We have furniture picked out but not purchased yet. We have the bedding already. We're just starting our HS but have all our paperwork done. We should be in China next spring
Note: We already had the walls painted when I was pg but the wainscotting wasn't done yet...we just finished that part.
I think everyone will say a different thing b/c some ppl wait longer and some start when they make the decision.
Good Luck!
Traci

We are adopting domestically, so we have no clue as to whether we will have a boy or girl until we are matched. Our homestudy is done, our profiles done, we are just now in the "waiting for bm to pick us" stage, and we have slowly begun working on the nursery. Right now, it's mostly about cleaning out the junk in it! LOL However, I'm starting to look into some of the non-gender-specific items. It's wierd since I have no clue how soon or long it will be 'till I'm matched, but I don't want to be given 1 months notice and have 9 months worth of preparation to do in 4 weeks time!
lilalouise: I think I'm going to do as you are doing. Once we are approved from our homestudy I think we'll begin on the nursery.
strawberree: I know what you mean about being afraid to jinx yourself!! Good luck with your match up.
angeleyes: I saw the pictures you posted a few weeks ago of your nursery and it looks great!!!
KDS25: I agree with you also. I'm adopting domestically and I'm right there with you. You don't know when you're gonna be picked by the bm. But better to be safe than sorry. I think I'm gonna start once the homestudy is done. Good luck to you!! Hopefully it won't be much longer.
Thanks for all your responses!!!
Adrienne

I think after the homestudy is complete then I will begin on moving things around for the nursery. Right now if I start it will be a mess for a while soooo gonna wait till that's over with and then get to doing everything. I've picked out my crib, pack n play and got clothes and stuff like that but just trying to decide also right now WHAT I'm gonna decorate the room like. Not sure what color to paint it or what theme to go with.

We started about 6 months before we left and finished about 3 months before we left...we took our time and had someone come in and paint giant bugs on the walls etc...
Now we are in the process of cleaning out our house of all the crap (starting in the basement and working our way upstairs) then we can start picking out colours and what we want to do
I am so excited I bought her a little black bikini with cherries and flowers on it from Old Navy yesterday *sigh*

During our homestudy (through DCFS) we were told having our nursery done would "go a long way". I was all over that, so we got all the furniture together (some family bought us) and we decorated the nursery. It's been done since Novemeber 2003!! Sometimes it's a bit depressing, but it has come in handy for the 4 little ones we've fostered.
It's decorated for a girl, but 2 boys have slept there without complaints...lol.]

Thinking of starting this crazy process all over again for #2!
We started when our homestudy was complete. I was scared to start before then cause I had myself convinced that we would be turned down due to my history of depression. Once we were approved we started, but we took it very slowly, mostly just working on the painting (I painted a mural). When we were informed that our dossier had been sent to a regional office for assignment, we kicked things into high gear and finished the nursery in about 2 weeks. So, we started 14 months before referal and finished 2 months before referal. A whole year to do one room! Sheesh, now I feel lazy

We actually didn't do the nursery until our son was 3 1/2 months old. Our first home study to placement with us was 3 years. Since the baby slept in our room in a basinet for the first few months, he didn't need his room immediately.
