Question How long does a homestudy take?

DH and I are sending in all of our paperwork for our homestudy on Thursday. I know we have to schedule our interviews and walk through with the social worker once they receive anything. The state of Illinois also does a background check. Does anyone know approximately how long it'll take, start to finish?

We plan to get our dossier together while we wait. We already got our fingerprints for INS (Whatever they call it now, I keep forgetting). So basically once we have the homestudy done we should be just about ready to send everything to Colombia. The current wait time our agency gave us is 10-12 months. I'm hoping that means we might have our baby boy some time next summer?

I know it's REALLY early in the game to be trying to figure that out, but I just can't help myself!

My girlfriend just went through all of that, and due to several "paperwork losses" - to complete all of her home study stuff took over a year. It really shouldn't have taken that long. In the end, she had to jump their chain of command and go to the top.

Just adds to the mess the state of Florida is in when it comes to childrens issues, doesn't it!?

BUT - once that was all done, she had placement within a couple weeks!

Bets of luck to you!!

We began our homestudy process by contacting the social worker who we hired to perform the study. While waiting for her stuff to arrive, we had our CPS clearence fingerprints done. Our Social Worker sent us document requirements and we started on our autobiographies (if organized and diligent you can do all this paperwork in a weekend). Once she had our autobiographies, she came for the first home visit which lasted about 2 hours. Then she scheduled the next home visit in three weeks and after that visit (another 2 hours) she submitted the report to the courts. Approval from the courts (Arizona) took a few weeks. So in total the process took us about 2 months. We had to remind some of our references to get their letters in, but overall the process went smooth.
