Unhappy How long does it take for the met to work???

I was on 500mgs for 2 weeks, then 1000mgs for another 2 weeks, and now i am on 1500mgs, this is my 2nd month. I am wondering when should i expect for it to start working? And when should my doc prescribe clomid? It just dont see any kind of side effects. When u look at my chart(the links are in my siggy!!!) it looks normal. like nothing has changed since i start met. i dont know, i feel like i am spinning my wheels and not getting anywhere. i have been told 3 months and then clomid, but on here i have read it could anywhere from 6-9 months to see a change with met.

is it true that if u get on clomid before 3 months of met that u have a higher risk, like 75-90% chance of m/c? because i am not o'ing on my own or getting af on my own, so i am wondering should i ask for clomid now or should i wait until after the 3 months of 1500mgs of metformin?

Any advice is very much appreciated!!! i am really confused!!!!!

It took me 11 weeks on 1500 mg toget my first period. My periods were still 28-60+ days until I got committed to diet and exercise.

So what you';ve ehard is right...time is something we need to lean on at first. I would give it 3-6 months on the 1500 mg dose and make sure you have those lifestyle factors in place before I saw my Dr again.

The only way to know for sure if it's working is by labwork...if the hormones that were high that led to your going on it in the first place are improving, then you're on the right track. but it really can take time.

Hang in there!

I have been diagnosed with what my doctor calls a very mild form of PCOS in October 06. I am slim and my only symptoms were irregular periods and a slightly elevated level of testosterone. This year I only menstruated 3 times so far - without medication.

I am also trying to conceive and my doctor put me on 1000 mg met on Oct.27. He mentioned that I should be getting regular cycles very soon. Now it has been 4 weeks and I have had no symptoms of an approaching cycle and I am getting impatient I guess. :-) I am now worried that the dosage is too low even though I have a "mild" form of PCOS.

But you say that it might take up to 3 months for the body to react? I really want met to work for me. I have heard and read so much good about it.

HI..........

I started on Metformin on Sept. 12th of 2006. I started at 500mg per day and worked my way up to 1500 mg per day within about two weeks. Since then I've lost 16lbs. I also got my first AF in over a year on Oct 18th and then got another AF on Nov 28th. (Not a 28 day cycle but better than NOTHING!) I'm feeling sooooo great on the Met. I saw my fertility doctor on Monday and she was very pleased. We are going to start clomid in Feb if I do not get pregnant with just the Met.

I hope this helps!

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!
