Default How long does it take for met to work? I don't think it's working...

I've been on met for about 2 months. My fasting blood sugar in the mornings is still high! I am not diabetic but I am prediabetic. Does this mean met isn't going to work for me?

I have been on Met for a few months, and I still have high levels of blood sugar. I was on it 3x a day, 1500mg/daily. I just went to the doc a couple days ago, and they upped it to 2000mg daily which is the max dose.

Thanks. I am already on 2000 mg so I don't know what my dr will do.

Two months isn't very long. I've heard it takes 4-6 months sometimes for it to really have an affect on your body. I've been on it now for just over 4 months and while I don't test for levels of blood sugar, I'm just now starting to see changes. In 4 months I've only lost 5lbs, but my face has really cleared up. Much clearer, healthier looking skin. I'd stick with it for a few more months before I worried about it. Good luck!

I been on met for almost 4 yrs now. I took a good 3 months to get any benefits from it. I had the full effect from metformin about 12 to 18 months on it. It do take awhile but so worth it

I have also many times heard it could take a minimum of 3 months of Metformin at your full rx'd dose, to get the full effects. Even with that said, some it works faster, some longer.

Well, I don't know if it is the met. or the change in diet and exercise...probably a combination of both. I have completely changed the way I eat, and in 1 month I have lost 15 lbs already! I am so excited! I started met feeling very tired, but now I feel great! I guess it just depends on the person!

prior to starting met my insulin was at 51, at my 3 month labwork it was 20. i'm hoping that my next blood test will show more improvement.

taking met along with diet and exercise has really helped me get healthier. i've lost 50 pounds in 6 months.

hang in there joyful. you're probably about due for some labwork.

I have been on Met since May, the only change that I see is in my clothes. I haven't lost any weight however I had two regular AF which is a huge deal for me. For some reason I was hoping Met would decrease my need and want for sugary stuff, I think I want these things more since taking Met.
