Points: 4,316.75 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 4,316.75 | How long does it take to see results of met? Hi all,
I’m new here to this forum and just diagnosed with PCOS. I have a few questions. I posted yesterday, but didn’t get any responses…I think the length of my post may have been a little overwhelming! So I’m going to get straight to the questions and am hopefully posting in the forums where they can best be answered. If you want to see a little of my history, here’s the link to my original post: Just started Metformin and have questions
I started metformin Tuesday evening before dinner. Dosage: 500mg 1X day for 7 days, then 2X day thereafter. Fortunately I have had no ill effects after three doses but we’ll see what happens when I up the dose…
Question: I weighed myself this morning and have lost two pounds, the first drop in my weight since stopping BCP in Dec. Do you think this is the metformin? Could it be working so fast??
Also, should I expect to ovulate before my next AF?
Any responses are appreciated! |

My Mood: Points: 10,075.26 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 10,075.26 | I can't attest to weight loss, since I don't keep track of mine...but it took about 2 months for my periods to regulate from 20 day cycles to 28 days cycles.
I'm temping now to see if its helping with ovulation.
Since each cycle is unique, I don't think we can tell you when you'd expect to ovulate.

Haven't weighed myself since Thursday, I'll weigh tomorrow morning. I guess I'll just have to wait and see as for as my cycles and ovulation are concerned. |

Points: 592.76 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 592.76 | No weight loss on metformin Hi Everyone. My 17 year old daughter is on metformin 2000mg a day and within the last month has stopped taking BCP. She felt they were impeding her weight loss which has been zero. Her bust size also went up from a B to a D when on the BCP. She has been on the Met for 8 months now with no weight. loss. We saw a nutritionist last week and have really been following her adivice for eating and my daughter has stepped up the aerobic exercise in addition to her 14 hour weekly workouts because she is a competitive gymnast. Has anyone else had so much difficulty losing weight on Metformin? Her endo tells me most weight loss is minimal on Met but that is not what I am getting from the posts here. Any info would be greatly appreciated. |

My Mood: Points: 1,960.16 Bank: 2,289.49 Total Points: 4,249.65 | Well, since on Met 500mg 1x a day I dropped four pounds in about a month. I was increased to 1500mg last wednesday and have lost two since then. My period was regular once with the 500mg dosage but after that fell late again. I am still waiting to see what happens with the 1500mg. I believe that while met is not a miracle weight loss drug that it does help relieve some of the symptoms of pcos, one of which is difficulty losing weight. So in a sense, met helps straighten things out so that weight can be lost that would have been lost if it were not for pcos in the first place. I hope that helps. Regarding the ovulation.... I have not even done any opks or temping since I started the met mainly because I am waiting on a normal cycle first. I hope this helps everyone and good luck to all!

Points: 2,882.56 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 2,882.56 | The effect of MEtformin seems to be really different for each person. Some O right away, some never do, some take a while. I may also depend if you are insulin resistant or not. I am not insulin resistant, and Met helped me O on the 1st month. Which is how I conceived my daughter. A huge shocker believe me!
I have always been able to tolerate Metformin. It only caused me side effects when upping the dose, for the 1st 1-2 days.
I have not experienced weight loss with met, but I am on the XR version.
You should be temping and charting if you really want to see your cycle, if you O or not. But not worth the time unless you are TTC!!
