Default How long does it take to see results from Metformin??

Hi, I am wondering how long it takes to get a period after starting Metformin. I was on 1000 mg a day for a month with no results, and now am on 1700 mg a day. I haven't had a period for 5 months.

I think the results are different for everyone. Many cysters don't see results until they eat to control their insulin. The insulin resistance diet is a good one.

Unhappy

Hi there.......I think it's different for everyone. I too am trying to be patient. I haven't had a period since getting off BC in November. My doc had me on 200mg of Prometrium to start AF but still nothing.....I'm getting a little panicked but trying to stay positive.

I agree..it varies depending on a lot of factors...genes, history, seberity of symptoms, how far your hormones are from normal, how easy they are to move etc.

For me, I have hormones that require a jackhammer. It was over abyear on met before I really saw a significant drop in my labs and another 9 months or so with diet and exercise and met before my labs got into normal ranges. The way I see it, my hormones weren't bungled overnight and they take time to get fixed too. Baby steps in the right direction are good enough for me.

Good luck!

Post worried!!!!!

hey Guys I Was Diagnosed With Pcos Since March Of This Year After All Prior Testings. Since March 6, 2008 I Have Been On The Pill Metformin 500mg. How Long Would It Actually Take Before Seeing An Actual Normal Period. Not To Mention Eversince Using It Every Month I Would Spot For Couple Of Days But Not Yet A Fulll Flow. I Just Cant Wait To Start Getting My Regular Menstral Again. Then I Could Start Tring To Conceive. My Biological Clock Is Ticking...i Gotta Get Going. Without A Normal Menstral Its Not Easy To Conceive.

I don't know about getting your period (I'm still waiting on that one myself), but my labs improved by about 10 points during the first four weeks I took the medication--so much so that the doctor almost declared me not to have PCOS. He rethought after reviewing my february labs, and he just decided that met xr 500mg made the difference. I also changed my diet considerably (due to all the terrible side effects of met), so that may have helped.

Good luck to you.

I know everyone is different. It took about 3 months for it to work for me. I made my way up to 2000mg and it started to work. HTH good luck

I was on 1700mg for a month when I got my period. It was hard to know if that was just by chance or if it was because of the met. But I got it again 40 days later and again 35 days after that. So it worked for me very quickly. I wasn't on it very long because I got pregnant. I am back on it again at 1700mg and again got my cycle after 3 weeks on it (and it had been about 70 days from my last). Could be a fluke I suppose, but I think the met works well for me. I saw a decrease in my total testerone back into normal range after 3 months on it my first go round.
