Default How long does it take to work??

I was diagnosed w/ PCOS about 3 years ago. My periods starting getting further & further apart/no OV...then they just stopped. Haven't had AF in 2 yrs. I started Met about 5 weeks ago. 1st wk: 2Xday=1000MG, then upped a week later to 3Xday=1500MG. So far, my symptoms are pretty light. Just slight nausea every once in a while. A couple of headaches here & there. Nothing major.....But still NO AF. Just wondering how long it takes to work. I am also TTC#1 w/DH. Been TTC to over 4 years!! Gained alot of weight since being diagnosed also & I haven't lost any since starting MET...everything is still the same.Im getting discouraged......

According to new studies, some researchers feel that Metformin is not the FIRST drug of choice for TTC w/ PCOS.

It's also not a weight loss drug.

This link has information on metformin: http://www.soulcysters.net/metformin...i-take-281499/

BTW, I see you're somehow affiliated with Novartis? Do you mind if I ask in what capacity? (I notice they have "Eucreas" which is a combination of vildagliptin and metformin)

It took my body about a month to get AF once on Met.

I have been on Met for 7 months now and have only had 3 periods! I just yesterday had my dose upped to 2000mg a day. Don't get discouraged! I've heard that it could take 4-6 months for Met to help us (if you're on the right dose--which obviously I wasn't). If things aren't good in a few months time, then maybe talk to your doc.

And yeah, Met isn't a weight loss drug. I haven't lost a pound (I've probably gained, actually!!)

Default new here

I was recently diagnosed with PCOS although I knew I had it for years. I was on the pill for years, but only got my AF 3 times since stopping the pill about 1 1/2 yrs ago. My bloodwork results showed increased androgen levels but normal ranges for all insulin/blood sugar levels, but I still asked to be put on Met. I worked up from 500 mg to 2000 mg in 4 wks and I ovulated exactly one month after starting it and I just got my AF! I really think it's actually working! Good luck! I've heard that most people don't notice results until they are up to the full dose.
