Cool How long till first period after starting met?

I was wondering about how this has transpired with others.

If you are a cyster who did not have a period for a loooong time.
And then you were put on Met... how long did it take before you had a period, and what dose were you on?

I've been on Met since July 2nd. Started at 500 mg 2x daily.
Then on the 8th bumped up to 1000 mg 2x daily.

I've been feeling kinda crampy today, and I'm wondering if AF is about to visit. This is the largest dose I've ever been on before.

Thanks for any input!

My doctors told me it could take 6 months or more for my periods to start (in the meantime I have to induce with Provera). I started taking Met on 14 June and I've worked my way up to 1500mg a day.

I hadn't had AF naturally in 20 years, in spite of being on Met for over a year when TTC. Then, I started taking it again in October (1000 mg/twice a day, same as before). I also started eating better in November. Still nothing. Then in January, I started exercising a minimum of 5 days a week/30 minutes and -- AF arrived in Feb. She has shown up 5 times this year in total.

For me, it wasn't the Met alone, I think, but the Met in combo with a serious commitment to healthy living that got my hormones straightened out enough for AF to come visit again on a semi-regular basis after being MIA for 20 years.

Good luck to you!

When I was first put on met last year, I got an AF the first month I was on it.
But it only came one time, and I was on only the 500mg 2x daily dose.

I am *hoping* that 1000mg 2x daily will be just the right dose to make it start functioning right again.

I was on Met. for almost 2 years with 1000 mg. Everything hormonal/sugars and such were fine, but no periods from just that alone. I didn't start getting mine until I was put onto birth control to induce them as well as regulate them.

When I was put on Met, I had to increase the dosage from 500 mg the first week to 2500 the 4th, and AF came after the first month. I also took Actos. AF remained pretty regular (30-32 day cycles) until I was also put on Spiro in December - since then, the cycles are a bit more erratic (30 - 45 days), but compared to what it was before, I am not complaining....

I have been on Met 1000mg 2x a day since May 17th and I have had two normal periods. My first was the begining of June. I started feeling crampy and thought I was getting sick and then boom she was there. first time in my life I was so happy to see her. Hubby took me out to dinner just to celebrate. lol He is so funny. Only women who have PCOS can celebrate having a period on their own. Good luck.

As you can tell from the many other posts it can take sometime or no time at all. For me it took me being on Metformin 2000mg worked up from 500 to start. it took me 2.5 months and I did a very very very happy dance

Last August, I started taking 500mg of Met daily and then in Nov bumped to 1000mg daily. I started regular periods in November shortly after increasing the met dose. This year......AF has been MIA most of the year. I've had one period since January and that was induced with provera in May. Nothing since then. I need to call for a refill on the provera again.

I hadn't gotten my AF since January. I started my AF in June 12 days after I started the Met. However, that means that I was ovulating 14 days prior, and thus I attribute the AF to my healthy diet and not necessarily to the Met.

Thumbs up Hi Ladies... Good News

It didn't take that long for me after all.
Aunt Flow arrived for her visit last Thursday. And left yesterday. A nice normal visit.

Thanks for your responses!
