I am starting my 5th month of taking 1500mg of Metformin ER. How long till I start to see the good it is supposed to do? My hair is falling out(started falling out before met), I have had 2 periods in the last 6 months, I have oily and pimply skin ect ect...I am starting to get discouraged. Thanks!

I noticed that I had some improvement about three months after I began taking my 1500 mg of Glucophage a day. I started having a *regular*period and noticed that my periods were really heavy, which was okay with me since mine were so irradic up until this point. I did notice that I had to take my Glucophage with food, and drink plenty of water. For me, if I didn't do this, I noticed some dizziness and upset stomach.
I hope this helps! Hang in there, I just joined this site today and have learned a lot already. We, too are in Oklahoma City. We are here for there months while my husband is at Tinker. I actually met another lady with PCOS here over the weekend, I was astonished and thrilled as we had something to talk about and could relate to eachothers walk with PCOS.
I haven't really noticed any improvements. I am wondering if the Met ER is really not as effective as the regular Gluc XR. I took that a couple years ago and went off it due to pg and just started back about 5 months ago. It seemes to make my periods regular on Gluc XR. Is there any way to get ins to pay for the real stuff if you don' thave any luck on the generic? Thanks!

depends on how the dr's write things up...pcos is a condition...met/glu are both used to treat that condidition...depending on when you were diagnosed, how it was documented and the type of coverage you have you shouldnt have a problem...with all those things considered of course....GL 2 u

Actually, I was precribed Glucophage directly from the start. A local pharmacy did try to give me Metformin at one time, and I took it, then found out that I was too sensitive to take it. My MD understood, and then marked my prescription as no generic, Glucophage only.
I hope this helps, it surely isn't an odd request. People have medication sensitivities all the time. The Glucophage through our insurance is $30 a month, much more than the Metofrmin, but in my case, i don't have a choice.
