Default How long is too long?

Hello,

I've been reading some past message boards about people who have been on their periods for months on end! I've been bleeding pretty steadily for two weeks straight (pales in comparision), but I was wondering if I need to feel concerned? I feel a little faint, but I'm a total wimp - I got some blood work done the other day and went out cold! When should I approach my doctor?

Thank you again for all of your help!

I have the problem with bleeding for months, the longest has been spotting for like 3 months. You should definately go to the Doctors ASAP. I am now Anemic due to my constant bleeding. I actually am going to switch Doctors to see if someone can help me get it under control.

I'd recommend going to the doctor...sounds like a long time to be bleeding to me. Be sure to eat well and keep your iron levels up in the meantime!

i think you should see the doctor ASAP because i too have anemia due to my heavy bleeding. one year i bleed for 4 weeks straight and had to be rushed to the hospital where they put me on iv fluids and kept me over night. i ended up taking 4 birth control pills a day to stop the bleeding and iron pills to help with the anemia. good luck

Like the other ladies, I developed anemia from the 4 years of spotting (15-20 of each cycle, plus AF). This kind of chronic anemia is also possibly linked to Restless Legs Syndrome, so you definitely want to keep your iron levels up.

Try to take iron with vitamin c (orange juice, for example) and remember that your body can only absorb about one-third of your RDA at a time--so I don't take mine at breakfast, since my cereal is fortified.

I bleed heavy ( big clumps.. sorry TMI) for 4 months striaght and the doctor didn't seem to concerned. She kept telling me I was just shedding my lining afte no having a period for 2 months. I found a new doctor who stopped my bleeding and got me on some iron pills.
