Question How long until I see changes?

Hello everyone ~
I was just diagnosed with Hypothyroid and I was put on 75 mcg of synthroid. My Mom was diagnosed when she was 18, so I have been asking her questions about it. One thing I was wondering, how soon did you see changes in yourself after starting synthroid? My Mom said that it would take about a month or so. I don't think that's the case with me. I started my meds on saturday (6th) and I feel like I'm having some insomnia already and I'm much warmer than I was. I was actually cold more than ever this last year. My Mom said that that was a clue that she was low, when her meds weren't quite working or she took them wrong, she would be cold. Also wondering if everyone has seen a weightloss from synthroid or whether it depends on the person. I'm hoping for a bit of a boost from it.

Anyway... thanks for listening. Hope everyone is well and you had a wonderful holiday season. Here's to 2007. Hopefully it'll be a better year.

Thanks!
/M

Melinda, your body is adjusting to have thyroid hormone in it. It is sometimes a shock to the system that has had no thyroid hormone for so long, then suddenly does! This is normal. Sometimes people see a bit of weight loss after starting thyroid hormone or find that weight loss is a bit easier after thyroid levels are leveled out.

Are you still having unseasonably warm weather up there in Michigan? I was there around New Year's and couldn't believe how warm it was!!

Hi Cynthia!
Actually, just 3 days ago we finally got our first major snow since winter started. We had a big snow in the middle of October (zoinks!) but this is the first Holiday snow. Crazy!!! It was 40's and 50's over Christmas and New Year's.

Thank you for the info. I did better last night with the insomnia but I'm warm still. I think this is what I normally am. I was always warm as a kid. About a year ago I started being cold. I have had the TSH test more times than most. Being overweight, it's the first thing that they check. It's always been in the low category but not low enough to give meds. I think it just got low enough this year. It was bound to happen. My mother has been on synthroid since 18 (oops... I think I mentioned that before - oh well ) .

Anyway... thanks for the info, again .

/M
