How long had you been on Met until you got AF if you had irregular periods previously?
I havent had AF in a good few years now and have been on metformin since Jan 09.. that is almost 5 months.. at least 4 months of that i have been on a dose of 1500mg daily. I have never forgotten to take a pill, i take one 3 times daily... I have lost around 10 pounds but still no sign of AF.
Am i the only one that has no luck?

You may need to increase your dose to 2000 mg daily. Are you on ER or regular metformin? Some women find one works better for them than the other.
Also, are you doing other things (exercise, dieting, etc)?
If it has been a few years since AF, you need to induce a period. You can get your doctor to give you Provera or you can use natural progesterone cream to do that. It is dangerous to go that long w/o one.

I was thinking i need to increase my dose to 2000mg.. i see my endo in september for a review.. so will ask then. I am on regular but i may ask for ER when i see her as regular isnt too good on my stomach sometimes.
Yes i am following a GI diet, and i work out at least 4 times weekly, i havent been able to get as many minutes in lately though.
My lining was tested when i was DX in Jan because i hadnt had a period in so long and my DR said that my lining was within normal range, & didnt recommend anything but trying Met!!
I knew it was dangerous and that was the main thing i always worry over, so if i dont see my doc before i see my endo i will mention it. I dont know much about provera or the cream but i imagine this website will have some info, i will check up on now.. thankyou

I was on met for a week and got it. I think it just depends on your body some might need more time than others

Natural progesterone cream is super easy to use. You can get it at Walmart, GNC, health food stores, etc (it is over the counter, no Rx needed). You rub it into your thigh every day for 7-10 days and then stop using it. AF usually appears within two weeks of stopping it. Also, it typically doesn't have side effects like Provera.
I can't believe your doc didn't induce AF. Maybe inducing this first one would help jump start your body in the right direction (along with your metformin).
I actually used NPC to induce my cycle so I could start my Clomid (which resulted in my BFP).

Hey it takes time! I been on metformin 1500mg for four years and I must say I noticed a difference after my body got used to it, which I would say was probably a year. It really made my cycle so regular that it is almost precisely 28 days. Dont worry!

Oh right i like the sound of the cream better, but i live in England and im not sure if it can be brought here, i will ask my doctor about it though!
My Dr doesnt seem to know alot about PCOS to be honest but i am comftable with her and she referred me to a Endo that specializes in PCOS, so i can always get answers from her im sure my endo did mention inducing AF but i think she wanted to see if met would help naturally as i was doing so well with weight loss.
What is NPC? Sorry im quite a newbie here and still dont understand much abbrevations lol. Congratulations on your pregnancy by the way, I really wish you all the best with it!!! I am praying that my periods become regular too soon so that me and my partner can try for a family within the next few years!

Thankyou so much for your input, You have helped to reassure me! Are you on the ER version or the normal version of met?

I had been EXTREMELY irregular my whole life, and my periods regulated on 1000 mgs. almost immediately. After a while, however, I starting becoming irregular again upped my dosage to 2000 mgs., after which I immediately got pregnant. I would definitely talk to your doctor about your dosage if it's not working. The higher dosage may be rough on the stomach, but it might still work. Good luck!
