I eat carbs, but try to make most of them whole grain carbs. Whole wheat pastas, steel cut oatmeal, etc.

Same here. I could never cut out carbs from my life (I mean, I guess to save my life or something!). In a typical day I'll usually have something like oatmeal or half a whole grain bagel for bfast, a salad for lunch and dinner could be pretty much anything. I try and eat whole grains over white stuff, but I will still eat other stuff too.

<------------Eating potato chips as I type this. Unless a doctor advised me to go low carb, I wouldn't do it. I DO eat whole grain bread and pasta, and only the whole grain stuff for what I make / eat at home. But I also eat chips, pretzels, any kind of fruit, and regular bread or pasta if I'm eating out (which isn't very often). I love potatos in all their various and tasty forms. I do also try to go easy on the sweets. But that's about it.

I am not very low carb at all, but we try to do whole grain as much as possible, and we try to avoid processed foods. Like for snacks we'll have apple slices with cheese and whole grain crackers or popcorn, instead of cheetos or potato chips. But once a week or so, we let ourselves have a snickers bar or reese's.

I started trying a low carb diet, high healthy fat diet 2 weeks ago. I have cut out all refined and processed foods (as best I can) and am eating lean meats and fish, fruits and veggies and whole grains. I have been eating a lot of almonds and avocadoes and having a couple tablespoons of flax oil every day. If most PCOSers have IR, then it makes sense this diet would help us even if we don't have a weight problem. It can't hurt to try anyway....I am going to see if it makes a difference with me. This weekend will be hard as I love chocolate and there is Easter chocolate everywhere!!

Has anyone had success with a low carb diet??

What kind of success? Like regaining periods or losing weight or what?

No period regulation for me. I've been eating pretty healthy since before I was diagnosed, so it hasn't really "helped" with much, except that my cholesterol went from 220 to 200.

And of course I'll be eating a chocolate bunny this weekend. Can't go too crazy!

i'm pretty good about whole wheat and i don't think i'll change anything too drastically in the next few weeks since i'm having my b/w next week. i'm just frustrated with my weight gain since going off BC and now taking progesterone and my skin and periods are all over the place ... i was hoping lowcarb was the answer. as if there's any magic answer, right?

Keo -- don't remember, but what's your status on Metformin? I've lost quite a bit of weight (8-9 lbs) on Met, which I had gained over about a 2 year period. I'm not insulin resistant, and I also significantly increased my activity, but I think the mild nausea I get from the Met has helped me lose the pudge. I'm not saying you should be on it (my dr didn't even recommend I take it), but I've enjoyed the slimming side effects!
