After I tried it for several weeks and it wasn't working I finally saw a dermatologist and he told me that it is actually very bad for your skin. It is waaaaayyyy too harsh of a product to be used the way it is directed. Not only could it make you break out more in the long run, but it will age your skin very fast! You are much better off to use a less harsh product daily then a good exfoliator (OTC microdermabrasion) 2x week. I have found that Mary Kay works well for me, and I have suggested it to other cysters and it has worked for them as well. |

Clearasil has a new 10% solution that is even stronger than the Proactiv. Also since Proactiv has been on the market so long, knock offs are now permitted. I have seen a knock off at Wal-Mart for half the price of Proactiv and same results. |

I've tried Biore, Oil of Olay, Nivea and all gave me more acne then I was willing to deal with. Proactive stoped the acne and removed the scars from my really bad habit of picking. |

The benzoyl peroxide bleaches towels, clothes, linens, etc. It made my skin's texture rough and unpleasant to touch.
It barely budged the acne.
While it's expensive, I've been using Obagi with Retin-A, coupled with chemical peels every 5 weeks. I've been using it for about three months now and I just love the results.

My Mood: Points: 30,603.13 Bank: 122,323.43 Total Points: 152,926.56 | Honestly, before I invested in Proactive, I would try the "Acne Free" namebrand. It's available at Target and Walmart, for sure, and I bet other places, too. I use only the cleanser, and you get this enormous bottle for about $5. It's the same active ingredients as Proactive, for a fraction of the price. They have the whole three-piece sets, too, in both regular (like Proactive) and severe (that I think has both benzoyl peroxide and retinol), and both kits are around $20. My skin looks great since I started using the cleanser. I use an Olay Daily Facial cloth to get all my makeup off, followed by the Acne Free cleanser. I don't use toner, but put on a layer of regular old benzoyl peroxide (the Walmart brand) and after that dries, a layer of the daily glow moisturizer. One of the things that I like about the Acne Free cleanser is that it lathers, unlike the Proactive. Not that it makes a difference, but I feel cleaner with the lather! lol
What I didn't like about the Proactive was how they forced you to enroll in their "clear skin club", with auto shipments. My credit card was billed every month for $29.95 (I think), and every other month, the shipment would come. I ended up with a lot of extra, unused product that I just gave away to friends because otherwise it would've expired.
I've always had better luck with benzoyl peroxide products than I have with salicyclic acid products.

My Mood: Points: 22,901.95 Bank: 43,391.19 Total Points: 66,293.14 | Hello,
I also used proactiv and it didn't work for me. By that time I was beginning to realize that my issues were hormonal. I started on metformin, I get it for $4 at Walmart per month (with a prescription) and that has helped a lot. I am also taking Saw palmetto and now my skin is a lot better the whole month, premenstrual breakouts have lessened a lot.
Good luck, and I hope you find what works for you.
FYI, if I am remember correctly, I think it's the acne cream that you put on last can bleach your towels, make sure you rinse your hands after you use it.
Carrie

My Mood: Points: 527.36 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 527.36 | I have to agree with Jill. I have sensitive skin and the odd breakout. I had been using cetaphil for years and a friend suggested proactiv. After a month my face broke out worse than ever, turned red and irritated, and I have dry flaky cheeks. I am now back on cetaphil and slowly getting back to normal. |
