Default how many on met and NOT IR

Are there any ladies out there who have been put on met., but are not IR?
I ask because my RE is thinking about putting me on met. I have VERY mild PCOS symptoms right now- I am 5'11'', 135 lbs, no hirsutism, low testosterone, other horomones all in normal range. After a vag. u/s yesterday, looks like I ovulated (corpus luteum cyst) and ovaries were not overly polycystic (even though they had been in 1991).
We are first going to try low carb diet to get my cycles a little shorter (they are regular but range from 30-39 days). If this doesn't work, he wants to try met.
He doesn't want to do clomid because he doesn't like the increased risk of twins.
Any opinons or experiences?
Thanks!
Jen

I'm supposedly not-IR (normal fasting glucose and insulin), all hormones in the normal range including testosterone, a thin cyster like you, slight hirsutism tho, and have been taking 1000mg met for about 4 weeks. It shortened my last cycle from 70 days to 36, and I didn't start the met until mid-cycle. AF showed up 13 days after my first dose. I didn't O (well, I was only one it two weeks out of the cycle, I'm not surprised!) and this month I'm on Clomid too.

Personally, I'd love to have twins! Actually I figure my chance of twins or multiples is a lot lower than most because I've got one blocked tube, so only eggies from one side count.

Hi Julie,
Thanks for the reply. Sounds like met is really working for you. If this low-carbing doesn't work to get my cycles shorter- I am going to try it. My cycles have been really regular through 2002 ....30-35 days. Right now I am waiting for AF (or maybe I am pg with no symptoms..had a beta yesterday at the RE waiting to hear)....I am on CD 39 and this is the longest cycle for me since getting off bcp over 4 years ago. I don't think i am pg, but don't know WHY I haven't gotten the regular visit!
I like the IDEA of twins, but I think the reality would be REALLY overwhelming. Twins actually "run" in my family...if you believe a predisposition to twins is heritable. Twins are spattered throughout my mother's family tree. If diet change and met don't work over the next 6 months, I will be going to someone who will try clomid!
Good luck and babydust
Jen

I had my fasting insulin done in May, after having gone off BCPs, and it was normal. Then I was dx'd in December and put on Met. The did another fasting insulin, but I don't know the results. So - it appears that the doc put me on Met knowing that seven months earlier my levels had been OK.

Probably not that helpful, but my 2 cents nonetheless..

Jen, I have mild PCOS symptoms as well with regular AF and non-IR and I am on Met. I just finished my first month so I don't know if it is working yet. Hopefully, it will help me get pregnant in the next couple months.

Good luck with the pregnancy test! Keep us posted!!!
