I'm such a wimp to blood work. first off, I'm in a high elevation in MT's. I had to fast for 11-12 hours and go in. They removed 6 tubes of blood. As they did the blood, I almost lost my cookies 2 times, ended up with a ice pack and a cup of water. How many tubes did you have removed to check hormones, sugar, cholesterol, lipids etc?

lol Exactly 6. I was like wow, but I don't usually mind it (as long as the person knows what they're doing- I've had some doozies).

6 tubes of blood is really only like 2% of your total blood volume so it is not the # of tubes taken that is affecting you. It's probably what is called vasovagal symptoms. Most of the time it's quite harmless, and you can't really help it...

They took ELEVEN from me -- 6 big tubes and 5 small ones. Then 2 more for the glucose tolerance test. I didn't get lightheaded which shocked me because I have a tendency to get that way after fasting and no one taking me blood. I did, however, feel like total cra* for the rest of the day.

I was told the max they can take from you is 8 tubes at one time = the same amount during blood donation. I guess they must be talking about big tubes.
