I have dark long hair (had) on my forearms since JR. High ... I honestly never thought much of it but I found out later in life that most of my friends noticed it. I have the typical chin hair ... lots .... plus sideburns, stomach etc .....
I say 'had' because after finally realizing and observing other women .. this hair was very unnatural for a female. I tried using 'thining' shears - worked ok but the hair was so dark and long - it was still totally obvious. I even tried bleach but I remember it did not work so well?? So a few years ago when I was getting lots of other laser work done I had her do my forearms ... so now they are BALD.... well they were after treatments. I had 2 treatments and I am sure there was a reduction but still plenty of hair so I just shave them ... basically daily and of course with that comes bumps and a few ingrowns. .. but now that I have been doing it for so long I just deal with it... I can't afford any more laser at the moment....
Is this PCOS related? I thougth I read somewhere it was NOT ... so i am curious how many of you cysters have this problem
THanks!!
ps I have an appt with an Endo dr on June 11th!! I am nervous and excited to finally figure out if ALL MY issues are just pcos.........
My arm hair turned dark and kind of long in my mid-20s. I bleached for a long time, but my skin is so sensitive that I can hardly stand to leave the bleach on long enough to lighten the hair. I went to a salon and had them waxed and loved it. After observing a professional do it several times, I went to a beauty supply store and bought the supplies to do it myself. I waxed about every 6 weeks for several years. All of this was before I was diagnosed. Since I've been taking Met/Yaz and now Met/Spiro, my arm hair is much thinner and lighter. I still wax about every three months because the hair on my wrists and the back of my hands is noticeable enough to bother me. I had laser on my face and most of the dark hair is gone from my chin, neck and upper lip. I still have belly hair, but it is also much thinner and lighter with Met/Spiro.
I'm lucky that I'm blonde (dark blonde, but still), so it's not quite as noticeable. I use a trimmer (basically just a blade with a guard) to keep them medium-short and that usually does the trick- when they're short they get blonder. Have you considered waxing?
I waxed my chin/neck a few times with zero sucess .. it just hurt like heck! I am not good at things like that. I guess I should go have it Prof waxed .. its gotta to me cheaper than laser!!! not a effective in the long run of course. I think it was $250 per session for my arms... maybe more?
I was gonna also try that magic powder everyone was talking about on another thread.... similar to Nair minus the buring etc.
does anyone know if this is PCOS related or just bad luck/genes.... like PCOS ! ha!
My salon charged me $40 to wax my arms. They wouldn't charge anymore than a leg wax. Laser is more cost effective in the long run. I paid $1300 up front for as many sessions as I needed to clear my face. It took 6 or 7 sessions.
I had lots of laser session on my face .. to many to count, plus electrolysis. It worked GREAT while I was having it done and I saw dramatic results. I've not had a session in over a year and now I am back to daily shaving and plucking. My laser tech told me it might happen ... because my hormones were still out of wack I'd still get new growth. So I am holding off till after I see then Endocronogist dr and hopefully get on something other than BCP to balance out my hormones. Once I see things improving I will do what ever it takes to get back into the laser routine!! My laser lady moved away =( so I will be starting over .....
i have the long, dark forearm hair as well. i just don't bother with it... for some reason, although i am extremely self-conscious about other hair (chin, lip, sideburns, toes, tummy), i really don't care about the forearm hair. once, when i was working as a cashier at a convenience store, a man complimented me on my forearms... hehe, i don't care if he was a weirdo, it made me smile!

When I was in school I was SOOOOOOOOOO freaked out people would see it...I work long sleeve or a sweatshirt every single day to school even in the dead of summer when I was sweating like a pig. No way people would see my nasty arms.
I've gotten to the point I don't care, but its completely unfeminine on me. I shaved my hands to see if it would come back less thick and I loved how pretty I felt just like that.
A guy at my work made a comment awhile back about how "gross" women with lots of hair on their arms are and it made me shy away a bit.

I've always had very hairy arms. The hair got longer when I was about 14 though. Waxing helps me a lot. there's such a huge difference in my arms after they've been waxed.
me me me!!!! ever since i was a kid, my arms and legs were a little hairier than everybody else's, so i don't know how much is just genetics, and how much is hormonal. my dad is REALLY hairy...and my gyno has suggested that i may have just inherited all this hair! meaning all the medicine i'm taking probably won't help!!! ahhh! i have an endo appointment sometime in july to officially get diagnosed with SOMETHING...i hope they'll figure out what's going on and that my only option won't be laser or electroliysis or something....
I have used hair removal on my arms in the past, but find it too much trouble now. Women worry too much about hair in the same places that men have it, and a man would never wax, pluck, tweeze, etc. hair that belongs there. And we have to get rid of hair all over. Not one bit fair.
Bells, I was complimented by a cashier one time who appeared to be from India. He said something like, "Your arms are sexy", and my dh and I laughed the whole way home.
