Thanks ladies Yep, already know about the mans razor, but I also know how nursing homes are ... I worked in 2.
Did neither help the women who needed it to shave? I've noticed that in single-sex nursing homes and hospital wards they're often not very helpful in such matters, but where the nursing home or hospital ward is mixed-sex and they're geared up to help men shave they're usually quite helpful in ensuring that women who need to shave also receive what help they require.
I've had tons of fine, dark hair on my arms for as long as I can remember... Used to bother me a lot when I was a kid (I hated when winter would end and I'd have to start wearing t-shirts again), but guys have never seemed to notice or care, so eventually I stopped caring too. If they can get past my arms, then everything else just gets a whole lot easier!
I do shave my fingers and hands though. I work with my hands a lot so I get paranoid that people might have a reason to look at them a really long time.

Oh the hair. I have lots of dark hair on my forearms, but have learned to live with it. I am too concerned with other hairy parts to worry about it, lol. The only time, recently, that I got self-conscious about it was when I was getting a manicure and the nail tech was massaging my arms and she made a comment about it. She wasn't trying to be rude, but it made me uncomfortable.
I've done the laser stuff on my chin, mustache, sideburns, legs, underarms, bikini and tummy, but after 10 treatments and thousands of dollars I am still hairy. I bought a magnifying mirror so that I can see every single hair on my face and eliminate it. It's so embarrassing. The worse are the chin hairs. I could really live without those, and they grow like weeds. Ugh. But that's what a good pair of tweezers and a razor are for. And my sideburns are more like mutton chops, but again, I shave and pluck and wax.

Nope, the 1st place was ALWAYS understaffed! The 2nd place was worse. I was so impressed at first, because it did not smell when i went for my interview. I was like dang all nursing homes i go in smell, but this place looked and smelled good and the patients seemsed happy.
After I got there, my 1st night I found out why. The owner demanded you clean from top to bottom each day! Now I am not against cleaning, but I learned real fast that was top priority there, not the patients!
You rotated patients each week, so like this week I would have #1-12, then next week 12-24. You had 12 patients to tend to each night. That included their rooms, laundry, feeding, changing .... etc. Hell you only worked 8 hours! You cannot possibly do all that for each patient in 8 hours! I was busting my ass! I thought how the hell aare all these others getting doen and sitting down and smoking and watching tv and crap while I am like just about half way!
Seems you were to only bath them in the shower room once a week ... wash off the rest of the time, oh and that only gets done every other day!
Not only that but I would get half of my patients done and would run out of soap, shampoo, washcloths. Seems there was only enough for 1 staff member per night. I was spending half my paycheck buying shampoo, toilet paper, soap etc. Oh when they ran out of TP... you used those nasty brown restroom papertowels on their bottom!
I was so upset! I stayed on after I turned them in only because i felt at least while I was there they got some care anyway. Still not as good as they deserved because I was 1 person and there were over 100 patients. but I felt I helped some. I finally had to quit after a while it had me so stressed, pulled down that I was in bad shape myself!
It was finally shut down nearly a year and a half later!

Sounds absolutely dire.
Were they single sex homes?
Kristy- That is so sad. I absolutely refuse to let my grandparents go to a nursing home. My Gramps has Alzheimer's and my Gram is wheelchair bound. My DH and I moved them in across the street from us, because our house is not big enough, and I take care of them. Gram is sharp as a tac, so she needs little care, and we all help Gramps. One day we are going to have to buy a bigger home and move them in with us, but I absolutely refuse to put them in a nursing home. I'm glad someone out there has some compassion.

Both homes were both sexes. No, they didn't get shaved unless I got the time. I felt so bad for them, but like I said it was all I could do to get them all bathed. I figured in that case a bath was more important and some wore diapers.
It was truely sad and what was just as sad as you know all those family members had to notice this stuff ... then again most family members never came
Basically we were their family.

I hate hearing things like that. They were lucky to have you. It's just so sad, and their families should be ashamed of themselves. Like I said, I refuse to let my grandparents go into a home. I wish we treated our elders better, it's really horrible that we don't respect them and treat them the way we should.

That is indeed sad. Thankfully, not all places are as bad.
It's particularly sad if older women who need it don't get shaved. I could understand it -- but not excuse it -- in a single-sex home, but if provision is made for time and facilities to shave the men, how can they possibly not make provision to shave the women for some of whom it must seem like the last shreds of their dignity are being taken away from them.
It must be even worse for those women whose beard growth didn't start till late in life. Although my own beard growth didn't start until perimenopause, I've had male-type moustache growth from puberty, so it's been part of all my adult life. For someone who hasn't had that, it must be all the worse to have to face the world with moustache and beard growth.
Like you, I do blame the relatives for not addressing the problem directly with management.
I'm Kristene and I'm totally new here, but loved your post and question because YES, I have hairy arms that I wax. The waxing helps, but it hasn't been until fairly recently that I realized it must be the PCOS, because even after they are waxed it doesn't seem to take too long to grow back! You are not the only one! However, like some of the ladies here, I have NEVER been complimented on my arms, I would love to have that happen, I would just laugh!
Count me in! But I've had hairy forearms for a very long time (as far back as Kindergarten - 1st Grade), because I remember the other kids calling me wolf girl. I didn't mind though.. I thought it was awesome! lol
They never bothered me until I moved to Florida again, started high school, and was suddenly surrounded by slim, tanned and virtually hairless girls. That's when I started shaving them. It was too much trouble though and I hated the stubble, so eventually I stopped and went back to not giving a crap again.
Now I have other things to worry about... chin hair, stomach + breast hair, sideburns, my very own moustache!!! Woohoo! lol
I feel the same way. I am less concerned about my arm hair because I have other places that are much more worrying, such as mustache, sideburns and chin. Ugh.
