It's so funny that I replied to this post and then a few days later my hairy arms were pointed out by my Mom. As a preface, my father and I are very similar, I obviously inherited a lot from him and, much to my dismay, I look a lot like him. The other night my DH, Mom, Dad and I were having dinner when DH said to my father "You know, I was surprised to see you out in captivity after they announced that they had caught bigfoot" We all laughed at this, as my dad is a big hairy man. Then my Mom piped in and said "Yeah, just look at the hair on these arms" and then she looked at me and said "Alison, be glad that you didn't inherit your fathers arm ha-, oh". And then there was an awkward silence as all eyes appraised my hairy forearms. It was just ironic timing, after I said that no one has said anything about it in years, and then this. Just another thing to be self conscience about, lol.

I have hairy arms too. I actually shave them every 2-3 months to keep the hair relatively short. In high school I had to shave them every day or two...it was a nightmare
I do not have very hairy forearms, but I do like to wax them. I use those Sally Hansen wax strips that you find at the drug store. There's no mess and they really take the hair off my arms easily.

OMG I didn't even know that shaving arms is weird!!! Well I guess it's a cultural thing then. I am from India and getting our arms waxed is the almost the norm there (among women ofcourse!) Even though after every waxing session I'd be amazed by how much my arms resembled a sausage ... As a race I think Indians are supposed to have more hair so I guess that's why its a normal practice there. Though I do wish I'd gotten my Mom's genes as she does not have a single body hair. I remember even as a kid I loved to feel her smooth stomach (you know, midriff is exposed in a saree, India's national garment, which I can't even think of wearing with all the hair I have on my tummy! I have no idea how traditional women who only wear saree deal with tummy hair back home. I, for one, have NEVER seen a hairy tummy. And yup most women do wear a saree every single day!!)
I shave my forearms. My story is that I was in skool at the time and in p.e we have a uniform. It is simply a short polo shirt and shorts. All girls had no hairy arms. I do have frends with hairy arms of corse buh when we all got older in the teenage years everybodys self conscious. I was relly close to my frend shes like a sister to me we both had very dark brown hair and she lived across the street from me and we both hated our arm hair. As it was summer i hated wearing short tops. But i wasnt exactly gnna wear a jumper at 18 degrees!! Enywayz we were on a trip to france and she was wearing a short top on the ferry her arms looked smooth and absoloutley hairless. i asked her about it later on and she sed she'd shaved them. so i felt alone. Suddenly all of my frends had silky smooth arms. And one day i was running in p.e and the girl who was relly popular ran past me and sed wo look at those gorilla arms and she laughed. That night I shaved.
Girls, don't worry about a thing. Everybody is body conscious its only natural. I no shaving my arms will be a fuss and will be so much effort to do frequently. But girls, don't worry just smile everyone dus something for a reason buh theres nothing we can do bout it now. So don't be scared, your not alone.
I'm dark blonde, but also very pale, so the medium-brown arm hair is pretty noticable and pretty long. However, I went to high school in New Jersey, where most of the population is Italian-American, so I had that excuse. It doesn't really bother me - the tummy hair, facial hair, etc is what bothers me.

I wax my arms all the way up to my shoulders about once a month, it looks weird to just do the forearms. I got teased a lot in high school about it so it's always been a sensitive thing for me. I have really fair skin and dark hair so it was obvious.
I have hairy forearms, I always have. It's medium-dark brown, and I'm very fair-skinned. I think it's an ethnicity thing--I am 3/4 Hispanic, and hereditery thing as well. My dad has jet-black hair everywhere. Well, except the soles of his feet, the palms of his hands, and his eyeballs!!! I'm sure it's made worse for me by the PCOS. My sister has hairy arms, too, but not as bad or dark as mine. I used to be so self-conscious, and once when I was 13 I shaved my arms, but it grew back darker, so I never did it again. I have learned to live with the gorilla arms, and do nothing at all to remove or lighten the hair. I have started getting some slightly lighter hair on one side of each hand, from the wrist up to almost my pinky fingers, and have waxed that a few times but not much. I liked how it looked, but it hurt a lot. I only really worry about the facial hair. Everything else (arms, chest, breasts/nipples, stomach) stays put. It helps that I have no boyfriend/husband that I feel I need to hide from, though I'm tired of that and I'm thinking if I ever do find someone, I'll be upfront after a few dates and if they don't like it, tough, but I don't want to worry about removing more than I already do.
Yup, I've got the hairy arms (forget about the forearms, it's really the whole thing). I've tried waxing once or twice, and while it was AMAZING for the first week or so after I had it done, I couldn't keep up with it (shelling out $35+ every couple of weeks gets really pricey, especially on a grad student budget). Still, I've been thinking about trying it again, although I am wondering -- if you're on BCP long enough, does it do ANYTHING to make the new hair growth thinner? I've been taking Yasmin for almost 6 months now, but I haven't really noticed a difference. Is there some other med pairing I should consider?
I never thought much of my hairy forearms. They were blonde, and not too long, just a lot of it. I even remember in high school showing off how my arm hairs stood straight up when I got chill bumps, and never was self conscious about showing everybody at all.
Then we started TTC, in Aug 06. I got off Yasmin (which I had never noticed had helped with my hair anyway) and I think it gradually got worse, but then in Jan 09 I got off Spiro (which I also never noticed had helped with my hair.) I guess it had been doing something, because in a couple of months of getting off that, my hair all over my body seemed to get worse and I'm losing lots of head hair too, which had never been a problem.
So, the last 6 months, I have really been noticing that my arm hair is getting longer and some of it is darker, especially when I'm not in the sun for a while. I've started looking at other girls forearms when I'm in public, and most people seem to have almost none. It's so funny that I'd never noticed before! I hope that means that no one is noticing mine too!
I'm pg now, so I don't want to try any meds, but I've been contemplating what to do about my forearms and belly hair (since so many people are going to be seeing my belly in the next 5 months!)
I actually shaved a little test patch on my forearm yesterday to see how it grows back in. I don't want to always have prickly arm hairs growing in in a few days like I do on my legs.
I was thinking about bleaching.
I was wondering, for those of you that shave or wax your forearm hair, what about your upper arm hair? Mine is real light and looks fine (except the occassional stray long dark hair on the back of my upper arm! (?) So, I'd hate to touch it, but wouldn't it look funny with hair there and no hair on your forearms?
BeeBee, I noticed you said you did all the way up your arms. What about everyone else?

I have always had hairy arms for as long as I can remember and then I got put on Dianette when I was 16 and over the past 10 years my pill got changed a few times then about a year and a half ago I got moved onto a POP and ever since then i've just got hairier and hairier. its not as bad as some as I am very pale skinned and the hair is blonde however its got browner and longer and is really bothering me now so I'm hoping when I see the dr and get some meds that it will help fingers crossed!
I've had a lot of hair on my arms my whole life. I started shaving my arms when I was in Jr. High school and I have continued to do that. It is much easier to shave a couple times a week than to get made fun of every day.
I have arm hair. It really doesn't bother me much. An older lady from South Korea once giggled and told me my arms would be considered very sexy in Korea. *eyes wide* I guess because it is unusual for Asians ;-)
