I was taking metformin during my second pregnancy and stopped on my own at 6 weeks. I thought that being on meds might harm the baby. I don't know if stopping the met had anything to do with miscarrying at 19 weeks, I doubt it.

I was taking 1000 mg for at least one, but thinking 2 of my m/c's. I am off the met at present and worried about it, but hoping that if I can get help for my clotting problem that we can get somewhere next time.

I wasn't....I had stopped taking mine a couple months before I had gotten pg, part of me wonders if that is why I m/c'd....hate not knowing for sure...I can really torture myself with "what-if's".
I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I had two m/c's in a row and I was on metformin with both of them. Six weeks after my second m/c I found out I was pregnant again. My doctor suggested going off metformin which scared me since I had always heard it helped prevent m/c. I went off the metformin and now I have a healthy 20 month old daughter.
i was on 500mg of metformin.. but i was also on 30mg of paxil.... i was trying to stop paxil that time... and the withdrawal symptoms were so bad... now i wonder if it caused my misscarriage....

I've been on 1500 mg Metformin for over 5 years now. I feel awful when I'm not on it. There were a few months in the middle of those 5 years that I was off of it. My nausea was bad enough while pregnant, I can't imagine what it'd have been like if I'd stopped the Met. My doctor left it up to me if I wanted to stay on it or not. I really doubt that the Met caused our misscarriages. There has been so much info saying that it decreased our chances. But that's just my opinion.

There is fairly decent evidence that metformin improves our chances to at least get through the first trimester. Research is being done about metformin and delivering in the second and early third trimesters. I never skipped a dose, neither with my 23-weeker, my early loss, or my full term cerclage baby (who wouldn't be with us without that stitch, metformin or not). Best wishes with your decisions.

First pregnancy - stopped the Met at 5 weeks along, had a missed m/c and a D&C at 10 weeks along.
Second and third pregnancies - BFPs (through bloodwork) at 10 DPO (for # 2) and 14 DPO (for # 3) and stayed on Met, yet still lost the pregnancies at 4.5 weeks along (18 DPO in both cases.)
BUT - it turns out I have antiphospholipid antibody syndrome (APS). With the first pregnancy, my blood clotted and choked off nutrients to the baby, around the 8-week mark after we had already seen a heartbeat on u/s (according to the RE, this is common w/APS.) With the 2nd and 3rd pregnancies, the RE said what most likely happened is that my blood started clotting right away and either hindered implantation or the placenta wasn't able to establish itself, thus ending the pregnancies very early.
4th pregnancy - first pregnancy with treatment for the APS - stayed on Metformin till 20 weeks along, OB had to basically PRY the bottle out of my hands. I did NOT want to stop taking it, but he insisted, saying it would mess up the results of my 1-hour glucose tolerance test. Grrr.
I am sorry for the losses of everyone on this board.
