Question How many of you work with/have worked with a holisitc DR?

Instead of developing a natural regime for myself through the use of trial & error, I'm considering going to a holistic/naturophatic physician. Do any of you have any experiences you can share before I start shelling out money for this? I spoke with one Dr in Houston briefly on the phone. He said he uses nutrition & nutritional supplementation first and uses herbs as his "last resort" treatment. He does all the bloodwork, exams, etc to start developing a program. Any input would be appreciated!

I've been seeing a naturopathic doctor. I'm not really sure how I feel about it though. It's not covered by my insurance, and it's expensive. (about $150-$200 each month)

At first I thought it would be good....I actually had a doctor that listened to me and didn't blindly trust test results. However, I'm starting to feel like I need a doctor that does conventional medicine as well as homeopathic. I want someone that is knowledgable about both and can use what is best for me. That said, I did find that she was helpful with recommending healthier ways of eating, exercise, etc. At the moment, I'm not seeing her simply because I can't afford it.

I have seen a holistic chiropractor, and she worked wonders for me. Although, I have to say that I brought in all the information for the herbs that I was taking. She did order labs and did some testing, and while I was going to her, I became pregnant - unfortunately it ended in m/c, though.

She was expensive and I have not been back for over a year, but once I get my finances back in order, I want to go back.

Good luck to you in your decisions!

Default Traditional Chinese Medicine

Hi,

I went to a TCM who is also an MD for 9 months. Over this time we did acupuncture, herbs and changed the way I was eating.

My cycles came back and are now regular with no additional accupuncture or herbs. In addition the hair came under control.

What I loved about working with him is that since he is also an MD, I could talk to him in terms of western medicine, we traded articles etc. What I conciously didn't do was look into Chinese medicine, because knowing me, since it is less "cut and dry", I don't think I could "get" it.

He sent me packing after a few regular cycles.

I would like you to note, that even working with a holistic practitioner may involve trial and error, because (as with conventional medicine) we are all individuals that respond differently to different things. There was a point when I was considering giving up...

HTH,
Oshrat

Talking

I've been seeing a Clinical Nutritionist / Medical herbalist for the past 6 months , he helped me to change my diet which Im still working on every day, im also on about 12 supplements , but the good news is Ive had 4 periods since and my cycle is getting shorter as the months go on. The biggest accomplishment is that my hair has stopped coming out in lumps for 2 weeks now , even though its not as healthy or as thick as it was, but it took time to try and reverse the damage done to my body cos of bad eating and diet choices , its still difficult and expensive but its worth sticking with. I once met a woman whom is married to a very successful Bio-resenance tester in Ireland, she also works with him in there clinic, but she said , talking about people who come to see her that they complain because they think she should be able to cure them of their ills in a matter of weeks with some magic herbal formula , she always replies , ' When a man and woman are in love and they decide we will have a baby now, the baby does not arrive the next day or the next week , no, it takes 9 months for humans to have a baby immediately , if they are lucky. it is the same with any disease in the body, consider the length of time it took for pco to develop , you didnt just wake up one day with it or in 9 months either. and it will take a length of time to become pco free again. I hope this can help someone as it has helped me , that womans story helped me to allow myself the time I need in my daily grind to help myself.
