Just wondering how much, people have lost on metformin. I started (1000) abt 3 mts ago and have lost abt 5-6 lbs. Not much! Should i up the dose to 1500. i also got my period but now it wont go away Iv had it for over a month. Iv been using prog cream too. Does anyone know the routine for the prog cream. I heard its two weeks on two weeks off to regulate. but right now im wondering if should just keep going to make it stop???
I've lost about 48 pounds through low carbing, met and exercise combined. Your 3-5 pounds is excellent..i took 12 months to lose my first 13 pounds.
Your dose should not be increased unless your labs aren't responding. When you had labwork prior to starting met, they should have got some baseline numbers for your hormones. If those are normalizing then you are on the right dose. Weight loss is NOT a primary purpose of met, so it shouldn't be considered a factor in dosage. If you get your hormones where they should be, your weight takes care of itself..that's been my experience.

Met has helped me in so many ways...my health is soooo much better than it was 19 months ago, not to mention the 155 pounds of weight lost. Like my evil twin said, the met itself does not lose the weight, it's a combo of lifestyle change and getting those hormones in line. Like Christy (goal weight woman!! ), I do believe that once your hormones get straightened out, everything else will eventually follow suit. As far as af lasting that long, honey, get your hiney to a doctor! If it were me, you might want to try avoiding the progesterone cream for a while. The met is working on your hormones, and sometimes, when you're using or taking other things that work on your hormones, it can "mask" or mess up what the met is trying to do. (JMHO) You should be very proud of your weight loss....give yourself credit for everything you accomplish, no matter how small!

I've been on Met for about 6 weeks and it is already helping a lot. I feel clear-headed and optimistic for the first time in a long while and the nasty sugar/carb cravings are going away. The side effects were uncomfortable at first but are wearing off. I'm up to 1000 mg per day and have very few problems with it now.
I'm doing a low-carb diet and not starving myself which is a nice change. I've added just a little bit of extra activity to my life each day but not real exercise yet. I don't feel like I'm punishing myself through dieting/exercise but I've lost 9.5 pounds as of today!
I've still got a long way to go but now feel hopeful that it can be done, which is another nice change.
Talking to your doctor is the right way to go. My endocrinologist is wonderful and pointed me in the right direction, although it took me a while to get with the program. Take care of yourself!
I started met in December/02. I the first six months I lost 7 lbs. Since June/03 I've lost 33 pounds. In June I started exercising and wathcing what I eat. I still have 50lbs to goal and my cycles haven't come back yet. But I have faith. Met is helping to regulate my hormones.
