What is the most effective dosage of Met? I've read some on the site only take 1000 mg and others 1500-2000 mg. Is the dosage based on weight or severity of symptoms?
I am interested to know the answer to this as well. My doctor prescribed 2000mg right off the bat and I am wondering if I could have gotten away with a lower dose. I really think the amount prescribed depends on the doctor and not much else. Mine was definitley not based on weight as I only weigh 140lbs. He told me he has found this dosage to be most effective (and I have to admit it has worked). I will keep my eye on this post to see what others have to say.

I have been put on 500mg to start with this week and i am to up it to 1000mg on saturday and then i go back after a few weeks to let her know how i have been with it and will most likely see if she ups it!
I'd like to know as well. I asked my question last week but didn't get any responses. My dr only gave me 500 mg and I'm doubtful that it will be effective.

When I started met, I was taking the regular formula. At that time my goal dose was 1500mg. It made me so sick that I never made it to that dose and this is what my doc told me, "Taking one (500mg) pill is better than nothing but really isn't going to do much. If you can handle two (1000mg) that may help but, (for me at least) the most effective dose is going to be 1500mg.).
Since then I have started taking met er (extended release). When I started this, it was at the same 1 pill for two weeks, 2 pills for two weeks, etc plan to get started. It made me sick for a few days once I hit 1500mg, but NOTHING like the regular met had at 1000mg already. On the met er, my target dose is 2000mg a day (just got to it last night!!). That is supposed to be the most effective dose for me!
I could be wrong, but I think it is really dependent upon how well you respond to it... I started at 500mg, but my cycle did not begin to regulate until I was taking 1500mg... My doctor just recently increased my dosage to increase my chances of ovulation and hopefully give me a higher change of getting a bfp!

I havent been on any meds for a while but I talked to my dr the other day and he agreed to start me on Met at 1000mg for a month to see how it goes, then if my blood results come back ok he will probably up it for me to maybe 1500.... it all depends on how your body reacts to it, some people only need small doses, and others large doses. I think it all depends on your results and what ur dr thinks is best for you, I find that doses get played with until the dr finds a right one for you personally.

I started on 500 mgs then was boosted up to 1000mg and then 1500mg. I have taken 1500 for over a year with no weight loss or significant decrease in my insulin levels. I, today, started taking 1000mg 2x a day. I am keeping my fingers crossed that this will jump start my body.
I'm wondering the same thing.
I was started on 500mg a day for a week, and then 1000mg a day...
I am wanting to go up tp 1500mg a day tho, and my husband is leaving for Iraq soon, so our time is kind oif limited. I can't get my dr to return my calls so she can ok me going up to 1500mg...so I'm debating just doing it??
What do yall think?
