Question How much is too much?

Ok ladies, I am new here and hoping someone can help me. I have done some research and found no answer to my question. My DH (31)and I (26)have been ttc for about 5 years. The past 2, we have been seeing a specialist. He is WONDERFUL! He and his partner have a terrifc success rate and has been absolutely wonderful to us. Problem? For the past 4 months, this month will be 5, I have been on 250mg of clomid for days 3-10. No one I have talked to has ever heard of this. I have asked him and his partner several times about "od'ing" on clomid and they have repeated that as long as they are monitoring me and watching, there should be no problems.

Someone said we should get a second opinion. Sounds easy, but where we are located the next nearest is 4 hours one way. Currently we drive 2 1/2 hours one way to doctor.

Currently i am taking 1500mg metformin and taking prenatals. I have been on a total of 15 rounds of clomid with no break and during such time, I have o'd once on my own with af follwing.

Can anyone give me some advise or suggestions? I am kind of at my wits end. We will be doing IUI at the beginning of the year, so I am looking forward to that.

Thank you all!

Andrea

Default Just my opinion

From what I have read, clomid should be done for no more than 6 cycles without taking a break. Some of the old literature says that you should only do 6 rounds in a lifetime but I'm pretty sure most docs will do 12. I've also been told that the highest recommended dosage is 200mg. At any rate, I would look into this further. If the clomid dosage is too high, the uterine lining may not develop and the fertilized egg wont be able to implant. If you arent ovulating with it, there really is no reason to continue taking it. I would say that 13 cycles is more than enough to determine that its not working.
I really think for your health you should A)insist on taking a break or B)find another doc. Using too much clomid can lead to serious health problems in later life.
