Talking How often should I have my thyroid checked and does weight loss/gain affect it??

I am relatively new to the whole thyroid issue. My doctor did an inital 6 weeks blood draw after I started meds and then I had another in January. He said that my T4 was a little elevated, but not enough to worry about. That if I started experiancing intolerance to heat or rapid heartrate to call him.

Anyway, I have been working out and I have lost about 20 lbs since I started taking the meds. Does this affect my doseage?? I am going in for a pap in a month or so. I think I am going to request another blood draw.

Rosie,

You might want to get your thyroid levels checked again. When you first start the meds it usually takes some time to get the fine-tuning needed to get everything working right. I think when I first started treatment, I was in the endo's office every 2 months to get the bloodwork done and was given prescriptions. Once I stabilized it was every 6 months.

I also wanted to make a suggestion to you...there's a great book by a lady named Mary J. Shomon. It's called, "Living Well With Hypothyroidism: What Your Doctor Doesn't Tell You That You Need To Know. It's excellent! It taught me all that I needed to know and all the questions that I needed to ask that I wasn't asking...

I hope that all goes well with you...please keep us posted.

Stacie
