hey, i know this may seem a wierd question, but how old were you all when you were diagnosed PCOS? and do you think you have come to terms with it better with age?
i'm 17 and have an ultrasound scheduled soon and am unsure whether my age is the reason for the large amount of distress along with uncertainty im feeling.
your feedback will help a lot

i was dx 5 months after i turned 18 i am 19 now. I think that even though i was really sad about the dx atleast i knew what it was early and i had my explanation. Now i can start to take the right steps in order to make myself better. I just feel like now i know and i can get my stuff together and try to get everything regulated before i ttc i dk i thnk its better to find out sooner rather than later...my sister was 17 at her dx (shes still 17)

Well I know my original doctors knew when I was 18 but never told me. I wasn’t actually told what I had until I went off b/c and was trying to get pregnant at 26.

I was 37 or 38 when I was finally dx'd, all the doctors and "specialists" I saw for well over 20 years were complete idiots. It was a shock to finally get dx'd but I was so happy to finally know what was wrong with me.  | |

I should have been diagnosed as a teenager. I had the signs but back then they didn't think that thin women could have PCOS. I wasn't officially dx'd until I was 29.

I was [and still am] 18. I think I'm glad that I have found out early because I have more time for treatment [and also that I hadn't been ttc without success for years and then finding out]. I think though it must be distressing at any age, really. I'm getting more distressed as time goes on actually.

I had ultrasound and blood tests done at 16 at an endocrine clinic but wasn't diagnosed with anything that I know of- I should probably check my hospital records. I did the same rigmarole ten years later and was diagnosed in the last months of my 26th year. | |

I was diagnosed at 23 or 24... after trying to conceive for a year. I had some signs as a teenager, but since i'm thin and athletic everyone assumed it was from that. | |

Feb 2001-Dx Severe IR, Impaired Glucose Tolerance, PCOS.
April 2004-Dx Severe Depression and Anxiety.
January 2007-Dx Pulmonary Embolism caused by BCP.
March 2007-Dx Hypertension caused by Pulmonary Embolism.
December 2007-Dx Bipolar II disorder.
September 2008-IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome).
Currently taking Aspirin 81mg, Zoloft 100mg, and Verapamil SR 180mg, Risperdal 1mg, Bentyl 20mg.
I have the Mirena IUD. No current treatment for IR.

I was 29 and had symptoms since 28 or maybe 27 along with hypothyroid.
Good luck at your appointment. PCOS is not the easiest thing to live with, but you'll be ok. There are more and more studies being done on it and more discoveries of how to deal with it.

Dx'd at age 23. Had signs since I was 16 but of course none of the many dr's I saw ever took the time to see what was wrong on me, so they just shoved BCP's at me. Lovely dr's as always. Once Dx at age 23, I ignored it for 2 years while trying to deal with the realities of it, and in the past year at age 25 I've started to deal with it and have begun my TTC journey!
