My Mood: Points: 2,104.98 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 2,104.98 | I've had symptoms since I started my periods at age 11. Then at 18 some random small town doctor dropped the term "Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome" on me and promptly kicked me out of his office- no explaination of what it meant, no discussion, just a term that I didn't know much more about until five years later when TTC my son.

Points: 1,597.26 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,597.26 | 4 weeks before my 25th b-day. Should've been dx'd about 11-12 years prior. Shortly after I started my period I had one that lasted 6+ months, until I went to a gyno who put me on Ovral, which apparently was the strongest BCP available then, and that stopped it. First I went to my GP, who inferred to my mom that maybe I was having a miscarriage! At 13! But for whatever reason, they didn't attempt to do any blood tests or anything. |

My Mood: Points: 123,653.80 Bank: 132,094.45 Total Points: 255,748.25 | I was diagnosed when I was 18. I found an article in a magazine about PCOS and it had all the symptoms listed. I realized that I had every single one of them, so I printed the article out and took it to my Dr. They ran bloodwork and diagnosed me with PCOS and prescribed me Metformin.

My Mood: Points: 4,432.70 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 4,432.70 | I was diagnosed when I was 25, but I've had symptoms since I was a teenager. I wish I was diagnosed sooner, but I can see how age can effect how you take the news because even at 25 it is a bit overwhelming at times. When I am feeling overwhelmed by all of the side effects from PCOS and my thyroid problems I just think of how much better I am already feeling since I was diagnosed and put on meds. I remember how tired, depressed, and unlike myself I felt before. I don't feel "great" yet but I think I'm well on my way. Good luck to you!!

My Mood: Points: 9,068.20 Bank: 41,933.95 Total Points: 51,002.15 | I was dx'd at 25, after many years of seeing a gyno and being told it was my weight and stress......( now my gout was my stress. missing periods was PCOS!)
Thought looking back at my younger years, i showed symptomes when i was about 10 or 11. 25lb weight gain in 3 weeks time........
I can tell you this, when i was told about pcos and then went through the dxing process, that made me extremely stressed!

My Mood: Points: 667.27 Bank: 39,183.84 Total Points: 39,851.11 | Gosh, it was so long ago... 25 when diagnosed in 1983 but was told it was Polysystic Ovarian Disease. No real treatment back then just "lose weight and you'll get PG, maybe some fertility drugs will help." Took 8 years for those drugs to help, one miracle baby in 1989.
I'm now 50 (ick) you girls are so lucky things have progressed with medicines and such. Technology can be wonderful, if I was 25 now and told about it, knowing how far medicine has come I wouldn't be so freaked out. No internet or books when I found out, just the doc saying I had this and not to worry. Ya Right!!!
Only one child and I wanted at least 4... it was just not meant to be for me, now a days... much more likely.

My Mood: Points: 3,939.40 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 3,939.40 | I was diagnosed yesterday and I'm 24. The doc said that I've probably had it for at least 5 years with the history I gave her. None of the other doctors I've had ever brought it up as a possibility! The news was kind of upsetting and relieving at the same time. At least I know what's wrong and it can be treated now! Good luck at your appointment!
